The Harford Glen science unit challenges students to create an action plan that will help the school become more environmentally friendly. Students in Mrs. Brenner's class had the idea to plant a new garden that is protected from mowing and w**d whacking. They have been keeping a vermicompost bin in the classroom all year, collecting fruit and veggie scraps at lunch. The students built the raised garden bed planter and filled the planter with soil, the compost, and planted native perennial pollinator flowers. Horticulturalist, Karalina Clark, from Appalachian Ayre Herbal Blends, sourced the plants from local flower farms in Harford County. We are so proud of Mrs. Brenner's 5th Graders!
