International Training Institute (ITI)

You don’t have to be an instructor or training coordinator to take classes with ITI. Courses such as TAB Learning 101 and TAB Learning 201, Direct Digital Controls, Mini Splits-VRF, Architectural Wall Cladding - MCM Systems, Intro to Heat Pumps, Ventilation Verification and Indoor Air Quality, and Advanced Service Technician are available in person — with Revit courses available online — in 2026 for any SMART member that contributes to ITI and is in good standing. Do you have your eye on an upcoming late spring class? Register soon before classes are full. On deck is the TAB Teachers and Teaching class June 1-5, with a deadline to register by April 26. The course gives instructors in-depth, hands-on training using ITI’s latest curriculum and training assets, as well as advanced skills in delivering TAB training content to members. It is designed for TAB technicians who have a minimum of six months of balancing experience or who have completed the ITI TAB Learners 101 and 102 courses. National Welding Month is a good time to celebrate the welding skills of SMART members, who continue to display true skill and craftsmanship while continuing to build this nation. Excellent training leads to exceptional skills. This approach has helped thousands of SMART welders attain and maintain thousands of AWS welding certifications, covering a wide variety of welding processes and materials, making them some of the best in the construction industry.

Rowan University and SMART have formed an articulation partnership to help our members advance their futures through education. One of the first offerings under this agreement is the Project Management Webinar Series, which begins with “Next Step in Your Career: Project Management Skills that Matter,” which will be hosted April 6, 8, 14 and 16. Yes, it’s a coordinators’ conference, but it’s also everything National Energy Management Institute (NEMI) and Sheet Metal Occupational Health Institute Trust (SMOHIT) have to offer. Dennis Moran, training coordinator for SMART Local 265 near Chicago, is retiring March 20 after 14 years as a training coordinator and 47 years in the trade. Congratulations and thank you, Dennis, for your many years of dedicated teaching, mentoring and service!
