Kidstretch

As a special WOW experience to wrap up our unit on the human body, we welcomed guest artist Marje Palmieri, who has recently been creating her own handcrafted puppets. For this visit, Marje brought a unique human figure puppet that she assembled right in front of the class, attaching one limb at a time with snaps. Once the puppet was complete, she demonstrated how puppeteer strings bring it to life, making it move and dance to music. There were other treats, like the large paper fish she named 'Amazon', made from recycled Amazon shipping materials.

We recently had a visit from a very special volunteer, our former Director at Homestretch - Chris Fey! Among is many talents is drawing, and since we have been studying the human body as our unit of learning, he was kind enough to come in and have a portrait drawing session with the students. Each student then had the chance to create their own drawings. It was a wonderful experience for the children and staff!

We are now into July! For our WOW experience for our recently completed unit of study on Insects, students got to participate in an Incredible Insect Program from Village Edu. Students had the opportunity to handle and interact with various insects and arthropods, including praying mantises, roaches, beetles, arachnids, and millipedes. It was a wonderful review and extension all of the wonderful learning students did as part of our insect study.

We are investigating new study unit on Human Body, and our music session with Sing Books with Emily included a skeleton song and story.

Kidstretch was fortunate to have a fun group of volunteers come out and help with Water Day recently. In addition, we are now into our learning unit on the human body, exploring the role of medical professionals in caring for people, the importance of exercise for maintaining physical health, and healthy habits.

Some pictures taken during our trip to Vinson Hall Retirement Community last week. Our children had a great time at this intergenerational playdate which has become a regular trip, with a very exciting shuttle ride to and from the facility.

Insects, inside and out... Kidstretch has been so lucky to have our part time teacher 'Farmer Mar' teaching us so much about the amazing natural world around us.

Our class has grown at Kidstretch! We now have thirteen students and growing, from two and a half year olds to five year olds headed to Kindergarten soon. Since we are still studying Insects, everyone enjoys finding small critters on the playground or making them out of art materials in the classroom. Our littler friends are learning the routines and taking part in group activities with the older children.
