Ask a Mount Daniel student what a kind heart looks like. The answer now hangs in the school hallway, painted one canvas square at a time with Artist in Residence Jan Garrett and funded by a Falls Church Education Foundation grant. Meridian golf finished 4th at the Skyline Hawke Invitational, one stroke out of third. Elementary families met clubs, teams, and mascots at the FCEPTA Information Fair. Meridian Cross Country came back from Patriot HS with 7 personal records and a medal. Sixth graders at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School tested local water quality, found pollution headed for nearby waterways, and organized an Earth Day cleanup. The unit earned MEHMS a spot in the Virginia Naturally School Recognition Program. Meridian hosts the 2nd Annual Mustang Girls' Golf Invitational Sept. 9. Mt. Tailgate crowds packed the Meridian athletic field Friday before the Mustangs' tropical-themed home opener. Face painting, cotton candy, vertical jump challenges, and a putting green kept families busy until kickoff. Girls Volleyball opened the season with road wins and a 3-0 sweep of Hayfield. Mary Ellen Henderson and Meridian High School are a partner of Food For Neighbors who helps connect donors in our neighborhoods with the food pantry. Five times a year food is collected from the donors in our community and brought to our food pantry where it is packed and distributed to students weekly. The Class of 2027 watched the sun come up over the football field at 6 a.m. to open their senior year. Tonight, the Mustang Athletic Boosters host the Kickoff Tailgate at 5:30 p.m. with mascots, food trucks, games, and free admission for PreK-5 students with a parent. After 23 years, City Manager Wyatt Shields is retiring. Council set today aside to honor him. His work on West Falls Station made building Meridian High School possible.
