We will be celebrating Thanksgiving here in the United States once again this week.

Even in the very small galley aboard a US Navy submarine, the ship's cooks did their very best to ensure a little bit of home was aboard every boat with a Thanksgiving dinner for the crew.

A tasty dinner with your shipmates was something to be thankful for even though you were not home.

Here the cook on USS Bowfin SS-287 prepares a meal in the galley.

"Operating enroute to southern part of Area 12.

At 1230, destroyed by gunfire a three-masted schooner of 100 tons. It was loaded with lumber and logs. Fires were burning merrily when we shoved off.

Sighted small PC Type patrol craft at 1845 and avoided on the surface. "

The US Navy confirmed just in time for Memorial Day that the famous and legendary submarine USS Harder has been found!

She was Led by Commander Samuel D. Dealey, USN, who was awarded the Medal of Honor, posthumously, for "conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity" while in command of Harder (SS-257) during her Fifth War Patrol, June 1944, when she sank three enemy destroyers and was credited with heavily damaged or sinking two others. For her performance during six successful war patrols, Harder was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation and earned the nickname "Hit 'Em Again, Harder."

On 24 August 1944, during their Sixth War Patrol, Harder, with Dealey and his entire crew, was lost to enemy action.

This Memorial Day weekend, let's remember those on HARDER and all lost while serving our country. We will...
