What a great opportunity for two of our Durfee seniors!

Tsion Lemma and Julia Rumsey traveled to Boston on Wednesday to attend the Harvard Club of Boston Book Awards ceremony. They even had the opportunity to meet one of the featured speakers, Tommy Amaker, head coach of the Harvard men’s basketball team.
We are so happy to see our students taking advantage of opportunities like this and representing Durfee so well.

When your class wins the Attendance Challenge… the principal gets wet!

Tansey Elementary School students who had the most days of 100% attendance had a chance to to throw water balloons at Principal Brown during the school’s monthly Town Hall Event.

Mrs. Brown was a VERY good sport!

Today is National Walk to School Day, and Fall River Public Schools celebrated in a variety of ways, providing opportunities for students and staff to participate and promote the benefits of walking to school.

At the Henry Lord Community School, students, staff, and families gathered at a nearby parking lot and walked about two blocks to school on Amity Street.

A big thank you to the City of Fall River Police Department School Resource Officers for stopping traffic and helping ensure that the nearly 800 members of the school community could safely make the walk to school.

For many of our students, walking to school is part of their daily routine. At seven of our schools, we offer Walking School Buses, where FRPS staff walk with students along designated routes through their neighborhoods to school each morning.

Thank you to everyone who helped make National Walk to School Day a safe, positive, and active celebration across Fall River!

• All student spectators MUST have a valid student ID for entry. No ID = No Entry.
• Middle school students must be accompanied by an adult age 18 or older.
• No re-entry once you leave the facility.
• No pets, smoking, or va**ng on school grounds.
• Please demonstrate good sportsmanship and respect for student-athletes, coaches, officials, staff, and fellow spectators.
• Follow all Durfee and MIAA spectator expectations.

National Walk & Roll to School Day is October 7th!

Fall River Public Schools will recognize this day in a variety of ways, with opportunities for students to participate across our schools. We’re also connecting this observance to something that continues beyond one day: our Walking School Buses!

Walking safely with a group offers students opportunities to be physically active, connect with friends, build healthy routines, and arrive at school ready to learn. Our Walking School Buses provide a meaningful follow-up action, with FRPS staff accompanying students along designated routes to school.

Does your child attend an elementary school that offers a Walking School Bus? If you’re interested in learning more, please reach out to your child’s school for information about routes and participation.

Let’s use this day to take steps toward healthy habits throughout the school year!
