We were honored to welcome over 300 veterans and their families today during the 2026 Tin Can Sailors National Convention. 50 years ago in 1976, Tin Can Sailors was formed aboard USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr DD-850. Our crewmembers were so engrossed in providing tours and access to JOEY P's compartments that we did not take many photos.

However, it was great to welcome all of them including ship Associations: USS Floyd B. Parks DD884, USS Wiltsie DD716, USS Mullany, USS Cone DD866, USS Robert L. Wilson DD-847, USS Brinkley Bass DD887, and so many more.

Chris DiChiara and Mike Botelho were going at the winch frame with needle guns, grinders, and a welder. Rebuilding this boat winch is alot of tedious work but well worth it to protect it for the future.

More prep work and two-part epoxy primer are in its future!

Ted Hayes, Tom Smith, Larry Miranda, and Rich Angelini spent a good portion of the day yesterday setting the DASH Hangar display back to its 1960s appearance and gave it a quick sweep.

Hundreds of visitors were aboard on Saturday and loved talking to our crew about these drones.

Thank you to Tin Can Sailors, Inc., The National Association of Destroyer Veterans for the 2026 Thomas Peltin grant which covered the cost of the paint refresh of this important space. Shout out also to our friends at Gyrodyne QH-50 DASH Weapon System who have been great friends of the museum.

We look forward to welcoming some 300 attendees of the Tin Can Sailors National Convention to JOEY P on Tuesday!

Four volunteer crewmembers aboard JPK today welding and putting artifacts back in place in the recently painted DASH Hangar.

Crew included Wess Murphy, Tom Smith, Chris DiChiara, and Paul Scalabroni. Wess took this great shot of JPK from the museum's LCM.

She is just about ready for the Tin Can Sailor National Convention coming up on 25 August with hundreds of visitors!

Paul Scalabroni and Rich Angelini aboard from 1800-1930 tonight to check out a problem with the first few strings of our Med Lights and also continue black paint placement on the Fantail walkways after hours.

Fantail area is coming along nicely with pattern completion hoped for the end of August. Majority of work left is to paint area near boat winch after the repair work is completed.

The paint we use will fade to match the rest of the black paint and provide the vintage look seen in color photos of these destroyers during the Vietnam War period.

Coming in after a long day at their regular job is much appreciated.. our volunteers are awesome.
