Two senior horses who have been together nearly their entire lives, were at risk of ending up in the pipeline and separated forever.
One mare is underweight and having a hard time keeping any weight on, her name is Susie. The other mare is completely blind in her right eye, and emotionally and physically dependent on sweet Susie who has been her right-hand gal for the last 20 years. This mare is named Misty.
We got a phone call asking to bring both mares into Kataluna. I explained as much as Iād love to help, we donāt normally take in owner surrender horses as our mission statements focus is mainly on auction rescues who have no one else to stand up for them and give them a chance. I always do my best to share resources and do what I can to help, but sadly we get owner surrender requests weekly, and we just canāt sustain saying yes to each one as much as it kills me not to help.
On that phone call asking to take these two into the program, I was informed I was their last chance. They were out of time. The ranch theyāve lived on was selling. They were loved and cared for, for years, but they could no longer support them. They would have ended up in the pipeline, just like so many others. Thatās no life for a horse, let alone a senior, *especially* special case seniors.
I couldnāt say no. I have such a soft spot for the sweet oldies who have given their life and so much more. They deserve a good retirement, they deserve to be loved for the rest of their days.
I would love to set up a fundraiser so we can support them here at the rescue. Please consider helping us give just that, to them, a home forever.
I would love to set a $3000 goal if possible for them both together. This isnāt even close to what we normally fundraise per horse to bring in, but luckily we donāt need to worry about āpurchase price from an auctionā or hauling expenses. They do need all updated vetting, loads of feed, farrier care, etc.
If you can consider helping us, we can do this for them. They dont have to become numbers. They can stay Susie and Misty. Sisters for life.
