๐ŸŽจโœจ A Colorful First Art Lesson! โœจ๐ŸŽจ

I had the sweetest time welcoming a new artist to Art with Mrs. Stefanie this week! ๐Ÿ’›

For his first lesson, we explored color theory and the element of line. We experimented with primary and secondary colors, talked about how colors work together, and discovered just how many different ways we can use lines to create art.

But my favorite part was watching his creativity take over! ๐Ÿฅฐ He had SO many wonderful ideas and wasn't afraid to experiment, make choices, and put his own personality into his artwork.

One of my favorite things about teaching art is seeing that little spark when a child realizes there isn't always just one right way to create. Art is about exploring, imagining, trying new things, and finding your own creative voice. ๐ŸŽจ

I am so excited to see where his creativity takes us in the lessons ahead!

๐ŸŽจโœจ **LOCAL YOUNG ARTISTS โ€” THIS ONE IS FOR YOU!** โœจ๐ŸŽจ

Iโ€™m excited to help spread the word about a wonderful opportunity from the Decatur Art Guild for young artists throughout Morgan County โ€” and homeschool students are encouraged to participate too! โค๏ธ

The Decatur Art Guild is accepting artwork for its 2027 Young Artist Showcase, with winning artwork to be displayed during the Alabama Jubilee Arts & Crafts Show at Point Mallard! ๐ŸŽˆ๐ŸŽจ

โœˆ๏ธ This yearโ€™s theme is: FLIGHT!

I love how open-ended this theme is. Think hot air balloons, airplanes, birds, butterflies, rockets, imagination, dreams, things with wingsโ€”or an entirely unexpected interpretation of what flight means to your child!

There are opportunities for elementary/middle school students (Kโ€“8) as well as high school students (grades 9โ€“12). Students create and submit an original work of art, and entries will be judged by grade level.

๐Ÿ† Winners will have their artwork displayed at the Alabama Jubilee Arts & Crafts Show on May 29โ€“30, 2027, and prizes/ribbons will be awarded. Plus cool prizes!

๐Ÿ“… Entry deadline: March 1, 2027

Homeschool families: Please donโ€™t assume this is only for students enrolled in a traditional school! The Art Guild welcomes and encourages homeschool participation as well!

Iโ€™m sharing the official flyers below with all of the details and contact information. Please feel free to share this post with your homeschool groups, co-ops, art teachers, schools, and any young artists you know!

I would LOVE to see lots of our local homeschool artists represented at the Jubilee this year. ๐ŸŽจ๐ŸŽˆโœˆ๏ธ

Today our young artists dove beneath the waves and created **Henri Matisse-inspired paper collages of underwater scenes!** ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿš๐ŸŒฟ

We explored Matisseโ€™s love of bold shapes, bright colors, and creative cut-paper designs while making our own colorful underwater worlds. Each artwork was unique and full of imagination! ๐Ÿ’™โœ‚๏ธ

I just love seeing the creativity and confidence grow with every class! ๐Ÿฅฐ๐ŸŽจ

๐ŸŽจโœจ **Art with Mrs. Stefanie is back!** โœจ๐ŸŽจ

We are so excited to be back in classes at **The Creative Hub**! Our artists have been busy exploring some of the great masters and creating beautiful works of art. ๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ๐Ÿ’•

We started with **Vincent van Gogh** and his famous *Sunflowers*, learning about oil pastels and experimenting with color, texture, and movement. ๐ŸŒป

Then we moved on to **Claude Monet** and his beautiful *Water Lilies*, using acrylics to create our own colorful and impressionistic masterpieces. ๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿ’ง

It has been such a wonderful start to a new season of creativity, learning, and fun! We can't wait to see what our young artists create next! ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŽจโœจ

๐Ÿ„๐ŸŽจ๐ŸŽถ Little Monet & Mozart Summer Camp ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ„

What a wonderful week of creativity and fun at our Little Monet & Mozart Summer Camp at The School of Fine Arts.

Our young artists explored life on the farm through art and music, creating adorable farm animals, colorful barns, traditional barn quilt designs, mixed-media carrots and corn, and so much more. Along the way, we practiced new artistic techniques, experimented with different materials, and enjoyed music that inspired our creativity.

One of my favorite parts of camp was watching each child bring their own imagination and personality into every project. No two creations were alike, and each one reflected the unique gifts and creativity of its artist.

Thank you to all of our amazing campers and families for making this week so special. I loved creating, learning, and making memories with you all!

At The Creative Hub, we worked with oil pastels and tried new blending techniques. We started by making some delicious looking strawberries, and ended up deciding to create an entire bowl of fruit!

The only thing that makes art class more fun is when we have the freedom to go off script, and try something new or different just because we can!

This week was full of color, creativity, and discovery! ๐ŸŽจโœจ

We explored bright watercolor paints, tried out some new techniques, and had so much fun experimenting with color mixing. It was exciting to see how students discovered new shades and combinations just by blending colors togetherโ€”each piece turned out so unique and full of life!

We also โ€œmetโ€ naturalist and artist James John Audubon. He was known for his incredible studies of birds and his deep love for nature. Audubon spent years observing wildlife up close and created detailed, life-sized illustrations of birds in their natural habitats. His famous book, The Birds of America, is still celebrated today for both its scientific importance and its artistic beauty. He reminds us how art can be a powerful way to study, appreciate, and protect the world around us.

This week was a beautiful reminder that art and science go hand in handโ€”and that creativity can help us see the world in a whole new way! ๐Ÿ’›

Last week, we explored the beautiful world of folk art and how cultures throughout history have used art to tell their stories, celebrate traditions, and express what matters most to them. It was such a meaningful reminder that art connects us across time and place.

We took a closer look at Mexican folk art, which is known for its bold colors, intricate patterns, and deep cultural symbolism. Many pieces are inspired by nature, daily life, and important celebrations like Dรญa de los Mu***os. Mexican artisans often pass down their techniques through generations, making each piece rich with history and heart.

Inspired by these traditions, we created our own โ€œmirrorsโ€ in a Mexican folk art style! This was not only a fun and creative project, but also a great exercise in studying patterns, repetition, and symmetry. The students did an amazing job embracing vibrant colors and unique designsโ€”no two pieces were alike!

I loved seeing each studentโ€™s creativity shine while learning about the beauty and significance of art from another culture. ๐ŸŽจ
