Today would have been Maria Montessori’s 149th birthday. As stated in this morning’s AMS newsletter, “This feminist, icon, and pioneer shattered gender barriers, blazed a trail for women in medicine, championed peace and social justice, and became one of the great thinkers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Maria also revolutionized the field of education, by empowering children to build a better world. It is a revolution still happening today in the thousands of schools worldwide that bear her name and are authentic practitioners of her Method”.

Mighty Oaks Montessori stands strong and proud to be a part of this revolution. Happy Birthday, Maria. We will never stop the work that you have started.

Happy Birthday, Maria.

Maria Montessori (born August 31, 1870) has a lot to teach us about standing strong and speaking up during turbulent times. She defied societal norms to become one of the first female physicians in Italy and was a fierce and vocal advocate for women's rights. She was later exiled for refusing to cooperate with Mussolini's government. She is known for her innovations in education and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize more than once. Her life is an example of how teaching peace does not mean being quiet. Her work and her convictions continue to inspire millions of people today. We celebrate her life and her contributions, and move forward with renewed vigor to create a better world for all.

The staff and children at Mighty Oaks Montessori are so thankful for the amazing community around us-- today we are giving a huge shout-out to the generous folks at Sow True Seed who donated many seed packets for our spring garden.
