Fairview Elementary recently celebrated the 50th day of school. The kids dressed like they were living in the 1950’s with poodle skirts and leather jackets! They compared life now to life in the 50’s, counted to 50, danced the Hand Jive, learned to hula hoop, made root beer floats, and tried to blow a bubble gum bubble! Everyone had a great time and learned a lot too!
Mrs. Nelson’s Honors 9 American Studies students display creativity and content understanding as teams created visuals to reveal the reasons the USA entered World War I.
It was a busy week last week as our schools collected items for the Holiday Community Food Baskets.

Fairview Middle School's Senior and Junior Student Council tallied donated products and awarded points for items collected. Two points were awarded for specific daily requested items and one point for all other donations. A total of 2,421 points were earned!

Fairview Elementary students worked equally as hard to collect items from each pod and determine totals, with the help of their high school friend Willow Kinnison. Math skills were put to good use and their totals are as follows:
K - 382 items
1st - 303
2nd - 514
3rd - 601
4th - 849
A grand total of 2,549 items!

Thank you to all 3 schools for making this a successful event to help out our friends in need this holiday season!
Don't miss Fairview Middle School's Production of Matilda, Jr. this Friday and Saturday!
Mask Mandate Update

Per the Commonwealth Court’s Order of November 15, the Pennsylvania statewide school masking mandate remains in place through at least December 4, pending the Pennsylvania Supreme Court's hearing of this matter. Additionally, Fairview School District is also under a mask mandate from Erie County Department of Health, which does not currently include an expiration date. The Fairview School District continues to monitor this order, and we will keep our families apprised of any changes regarding universal masking. For now, it appears that masks will be required for all students, staff, and visitors inside of all Erie County School buildings for the remainder of 2021. If and when the Erie County Order is lifted, local school boards will likely be required to determine masking requirements.

Mrs. Kovacs developed a schoolwide project aimed at building a kind and encouraging culture at the middle school. During lunches a few weeks ago, students had an opportunity to write kind messages in an effort to spread positivity throughout the school!

Mrs. Alvez and her 5th grade ELA class began their unit on memoirs last month. Using the mentor text "The Keeping Quilt" by Patricia Polacco, we learned that our memories can be tied to special objects. The students brainstormed and created an illustration of an object they have that holds a special memory. We used these illustrations to create our own class keeping quilt to be displayed in our room.
Special thanks to Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine for partnering with the District to offer our COVID vaccination clinic today. We were able to offer over 400 vaccinations to interested students, staff, and community members .
Today is National School Psychologist Day, so we would like to give a shoutout to Mr. Tony Iapalucci! Thank you for all that you do for our students!

In Mrs. Smith's 6th Grade ELA class, students are practicing how to use descriptive and sensory language to write a personal narrative. The students played the game "BeanBoozled" for a fun way to practice sensory language. They are continuing to add vivid verbs and descriptive adjectives to their personal experiences to make the moments come alive for the reader. The students can't wait to publish and share their stories!

Last week, the 5th grade Science students had an exciting field trip to Brown's Farm. They investigated the local watershed and how it can become polluted. The students also learned about the importance of the wetlands and how they help absorb some of the bad polutants that come from run off. During an experiment, many of the students even found micro-critters swimming around in collected water. They were very engaged with the Asbury Woods educators and the activities they provided. It was a fantastic day!
