Dale Schroeder spent 67 years working as a carpenter for the same manufacturing company in Iowa, living a quiet and simple life. He never married, had no children, and saved carefully despite earning an ordinary salary.

When he passed away in 2005, he left behind nearly $3 million with one special wish: that his money be used to help local students afford college.

His estate created a scholarship that helped 33 students, many of whom were the first in their families to attend higher education. Known as “Dale’s Kids,” they went on to become teachers, doctors, therapists, and professionals in many fields.

Although they never knew him personally, these students came together to honor the man whose generosity transformed their futures — and many now hope to continue his legacy by helping others.
