We are celebrating Miss Janae today! She has been at Sunbeam for 16 years. After working as a teacher for 14 years in public education, she moved to Sunbeam in 2010 first as a toddler teacher, then as a PreK teacher. After leaving the classroom she began her journey in leadership at Sunbeam as the Program Director. We celebrate her commitment to our staff and our children and families.

Creators harvested their rainbow carrots they planted this spring 🥕 👩‍🌾 🧑‍🌾
They forgot to thin them out so ended up with a combination of small or medium sized carrots. As they pulled they sorted through which ones were big enough to clean and eat and which ones were small enough for the birds, squirrels, and deer.
When Creators harvested rainbow carrots they shared some of the small ones with Makers. They were able to feel the tops of the carrots as well as feeling the roots attached to the carrots. The teachers also pointed out the different colors as these were purple, white, and yellow along with the color orange they are accustomed to!

Creators have read at least 51 books this month courtesy of library check outs, parents sharing books, and the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library 📖 📚
Along with Miss Jolene (yes, she was named after the song) and a former infant from her classroom representing Miss Dolly today!

Creators had a large variety of lunch box peppers ready to be harvested and eaten! They knew the best way to enjoy them was to share with others. They shared with their friends in Makers, Inventors, and Investigators 🫑💚❤️

Creators colored with markers while following the tempo of the music. If the music was fast paced they quickly walked around the table. It is was a slow pace they walked slow. If it stopped they froze where they were and lifted their marker up.

Today we celebrate Miss Jocelynn. She has been with us a year. She works part time as she is working on her BA in Education. She has been an important part of our afternoons and now is helping to support classrooms as our lead teachers plan. We are thankful for her flexibility and her love of all ages! Thank you Jocelynn!

Several members of our team spent our Saturday a little differently this week. Miss Rhoda, Miss Jordonna, Miss Ciara, Miss Rory, Miss Hannah, and Miss Janae attended the Maryland Early Childhood Conference in Hagerstown. It was DYNAMIC! We got to be inspired by Sally Haughey, from Wunderled Teaching, Mr. Ty "The Childcare Whisperer" and Gerry Brooks, a principal and motivational speaker. Each speaker brought a different dynamic message to our teachers. Sally reminded us that "Curiosity creates Connection." Mr. Ty shared, "We are not babysitters, we are educators." And Gerry Brooks instilled, that we all need to remember that, "Everyone is someone's baby!"

Sunbeam welcomed a special visitor today, as Dr. Lefeber partnered with WVAAP, the West Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, to read Benny and the Magic Book to our WV Pre-K classroom. As an added gift, they donated a copy of the book to every child at Sunbeam. We are grateful for their support of early literacy and for sharing the precious gift of books with our children.
