Fairmont Elementary is happy to announce that we will have a therapy dog "in training" as part of our school community this upcoming school year! Meet Hazen (aka Haze). Haze is the one-year-old labrador of our school social worker, Mrs. Becker. Haze and Mrs. Becker are training to have him become a therapy dog with the plan to provide animal-assisted interventions at school. As part of Haze's training, he will have short visits at the school to do activities in classrooms, with small groups, and with individual students. When Haze is ready, he will complete an evaluation to receive his official credentials as a therapy dog.

Research has shown that therapy animals have many benefits for students including assisting with learning, social-emotional development, self-esteem, and stress and anxiety management. We are very excited to have this opportunity for our students. Haze looks forward to meeting students and families during the upcoming school year!

We recognize that some students and families may have concerns due to allergies, fears, culture considerations, etc. Anyone with concerns is able to contact Mrs. Becker at 235-4606 or [email protected], and a plan will be made to accommodate your child's needs. Also look for additional information that will be sent home with students.

We are so thankful for our crossing guards, who help keep our students safe each day as they cross the streets around our school. Their presence, care, and commitment make a big difference in helping our students arrive safely and start their day ready
to learn! 🛑🚸

As we begin this new school year, please remember to slow down, stay alert, and watch for our students and crossing guards. Together, we can make sure every Cardinal gets to school and home safely! ❤️
