Senior Occupational Safety students are putting classroom knowledge into practice through machine guarding assessments in our Engineering Technology lab spaces.

Students assess equipment, identify potential hazards, develop practical improvement plans, and communicate their findings through an executive summary- the same kind of clear, solutions-focused work they will be expected to do as safety professionals.

Our ET labs offer the perfect real-world simulation space for building these hands-on skills before students step into the field.

Hello! Today, the Folklife Center is hosting an awards ceremony, open to the public, as we acknowledge and congratulate the following for their contribution to our Appalachian community.

Award winners are Patricia Harper, Lynette Swiger, the late Steve Smigocki, and the late Robert Lackey.

There will be an open house and reception from 2 to 3 p.m., followed by a square dance and alternate activities from 3 to 4 p.m.

This year, our Occupational Safety capstone students partnered with Fairmont State University to help standardize lab safety practices across the College of Science and Technology.

Students conducted lab safety assessments, revised training materials, and collaborated with faculty and administrators to gather feedback and improve processes. This project provided valuable real-world experience while making a meaningful impact on campus safety.

We are proud of the hard work and professionalism shown by our students throughout the semester!
