Get advice before you buy a telescope. Contact several of the fine online retail telescope vendors and get their advice. Technology has made scopes easier to use. Remember, whenever there is a program at the observatory, you are welcome to check our our equipment.
If you have a telescope bring it to the observatory. Great way to share. It is how I learned how to best drive my first nice telescope.

To know when there are observatory programs please join the free site: www.meetup.com/summit-county-astronomy-meetup
You will then receive notice of programs for we are weather and volunteer dependent.
Clear Skies! (sometime soon I hope)
John
