Since the cybersecurity event that occurred on September 1, we have prioritized our regulatory functions, while working towards the modernization of our servers. We have faced many challenges, including the inability to email our licensees. We regained access to licensees’ email addresses within the past few days.
Prior to the cybersecurity event, we had been working with a software developer to build a new licensing management system (LMS), which was scheduled to be launched in early 2027. We have accelerated the license component of the new platform and will be able to reopen renewals in the coming days. During a special-called meeting on October 2, the Board passed an emergency rule changing the required submission of CE information; this rule will remain in effect for the next 120 days, expiring on January 21, 2027.
Nurses will notice three major changes in the renewal process:
The “look” of the LMS will be different. You will be required to enter your email address and create a new password.
The new LMS requires the integration of a new payment vendor, creating another change in the renewal process.
You will not upload proof of CE, but will be required to attest to obtaining the mandatory number of CE for the renewal cycle. The CE attestation is only valid for the 2026 renewal cycle.
I urge everyone to monitor our website, ABN Facebook, and your email for more information about the reopening of the renewal cycle. I appreciate your patience while ABN strives to restore all our regulatory services through a new LMS platform.

Why were licensure renewals excluded from paper applications?
To increase the nursing workforce, we made the decision to focus on new graduates and others seeking initial licensure first.
Will the renewal cycle be extended?
Currently, there are no plans to extend the renewal deadline. Nurses will have approximately 2.5 months to complete the renewal process.
Is it safe to log into the ABN website?
Yes. As we restore services, additional security measures will be implemented. Once you create a new account, a validation link will be sent to your email.
What happens if I can’t remember which email I previously used with the ABN?
You will have several attempts to enter different email addresses. If you are unable to access your account, you will be prompted to contact our Call Center. When speaking to a representative, you will be required to validate your identity.
This is my first time to renew. Are there any required CE modules to be completed?
No. The Board voted to remove the required CE modules during this renewal cycle.
How many CEs are required for renewal?
RN/APRNs are required to obtain 1 hour of CE credit for each month that they were licensed during the current license period; APRNs must obtain at least 6 pharmacology CEs. The mandatory 4-hour CE course normally required for first-time renewers has been waived under the emergency rule and is not in effect for this renewal cycle.
Why are you not requiring nurses to upload their CEs?
To expedite launching the new LMS, the Board passed an emergency rule removing the requirement to upload CEs.
What if I don’t know how many CEs I’ve obtained during this renewal cycle?
Nurses will be able to see how many CEs were previously uploaded into their account.
My account shows 13 CEs but I obtained an additional 11 CEs that have not been uploaded. Will I be able to attest to obtaining 24 CEs despite the LMS showing a different number?
Yes. The LMS platform will allow you to renew your license if you select “yes” to the attestation question.
Where are the free CE modules located?
Currently, we have not recovered the free CE modules. There are many free CEs available on the internet. For example, the American Nurses Association offers free CE modules to all nurses, including those who are not members.
I was selected for CE audit, will that still occur?
No. The biennial CE audit is suspended for this renewal cycle under the emergency rules currently in effect.
When will other licensure services be available online?
After the renewal launch, we will continue to work with the software vendor in the development of additional licensure applications.
