For the past two weeks, our students have been learning All About Me, exploring their names, families, feelings, abilities, interests, and all the wonderful things that make each of them unique.

But learning about ourselves also teaches us something important about others:

We don’t all have to be the same to belong together. ❀️

As our little learners continue growing this year, we want them to know that their voices matter, their ideas matter, and there is a place for them here.

We’ve spent August reading Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?

Now, we have a question for our little learners:
If YOU could add an animal to the story, what would it be, and what color would you make it?

A pink elephant? A purple puppy? A green giraffe?

There are no wrong answers!

Questions like these encourage children to use imagination, recall a familiar story, make choices, and express their own ideas.

Ask your little learner and share their answer with us below! πŸ‘‡πŸ½

❀️ One of the most important things we can give a young child is a sense of belonging.

Our classrooms are places where children can begin discovering their strengths, forming friendships, developing confidence, and learning that who they are matters.

Every child enters our doors with something special to contribute.

Our job is to help them discover it.

Favorite color? Favorite food? Favorite song? Favorite thing to play? Discovering and communicating preferences helps young children learn more about themselves while also discovering how their friends may be different from them. 🏠 Try your own All About Me Interview tonight! Ask your child three or four of their favorite things and let them interview you too. You may be surprised by their answers! 😊

β€œI can do it!” Those four little words can represent a BIG milestone. Buttoning a shirt. Putting away a toy. Washing hands. Carrying a backpack. Using words to ask for help. Completing a classroom task. During our All About Me theme, we’re celebrating what our students can do while encouraging them as they learn what they can do next. Independence grows through opportunities to try. 🌱

Families come in many shapes, sizes, and forms, and they are an important part of a child’s developing sense of identity. As we explore All About Me, we’re also celebrating the people our students call family, the people who love them, care for them, teach them, and help shape who they are becoming. At Head Start & Early Head Start, families aren't separate from the learning experience. You are our partners in it.

What do you see?
Inspired by our August Book of the Month, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?, turn today into a color hunt!

πŸ”΄ Red
🟑 Yellow
πŸ”΅ Blue
🟒 Green
🟣 Purple

Simple activities like this reinforce color recognition, observation, vocabulary, and the learning taking place in the classroom.

Tell us in the comments: What color did your little learner find first?
