Great new evidence from Warden et al. (2022) to support non-specialization in female runners. Runners that previously participated in soccer and/or basketball demonstrated significantly stronger bones and potentially more resiliency from future bone stress injuries. Besides being fun to participate in a wide array of sports at a young age, it seems it may actually lead to healthier runners! [Warden SJ, Sventeckis AM, Surowiec RK, Fuchs RK. Enhanced Bone Size, Microarchitecture, and Strength in Female Runners with a History of Playing Multidirectional Sports. Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise. 2022;54(12):2020-2030.]
