What does it look like to feed your newborn in the early weeks of life? “Every 2-3 hours” is what we’re told. With maturing milk and frequent growth spurts this can look different day by day. Some days this can look like nursing every hour. Other days this can extend to 3 hours, from the start of one feed to the start of the next. The more opportunities given during the day will set your baby up to go longer stretches overnight, after the first few weeks of life. Rather than following a schedule, follow your baby’s early hunger cues and believe them when they cue that they are hungry. Prompt responses to early hunger cues and offering more frequent opportunities to nurse are key in meeting your baby’s hunger and comfort needs and establishing milk supply.
Happy holidays!🎄
Everyone deserves a doula!! What was your experience with doula support? What did you find to be the most supportive to you and your unique experience?
I have a couple openings for February and March! I would love to support you.
Be it birth, postpartum support or both! Navigating these seasons with experienced, professional help can make all the difference in your journey. Those middle of the night conversations with new parents fill my soul. I’m always reminded this is where I’m meant to be.
