Summer is right around the corner and can often bring a shift in routine that can be both exciting and challenging for children. Without the structure of school days, some kids thrive, while others may struggle with transitions, behavior changes, communication, or regulating big emotions in new environments.

You might notice your child having a harder time with flexibility, social interactions, or daily expectations during the summer months. These changes don’t always mean something is “wrong,” but they can highlight areas where extra support could make daily life feel more manageable.

Speech therapy, occupational therapy, and ABA can help children build skills that carry through all seasons, from communicating needs more clearly, to managing sensory input, to navigating routines and expectations with greater independence.

Whether you want to keep your child on a routine or simply ask questions about where they’re at in their development to prepare for the upcoming school year, this might be a helpful time to learn more about what support could look like for your child, not just for now, but for long-term growth.

If you’ve ever found yourself wondering whether your child is “just taking a little longer” or if they might benefit from extra support, you’re not alone. Many parents notice early differences in speech, behavior, attention, or daily routines but aren’t always sure what those signs mean or what to do next.

Development doesn’t always follow a straight path, and every child grows in their own way. But when communication, regulation, or daily living skills feel harder than expected, it can leave families feeling uncertain, frustrated, or even isolated in the process of trying to help.

Services like speech therapy, occupational therapy, and ABA are designed to meet children where they are. The goal isn’t to change who a child is, but to support their ability to communicate, participate, and navigate everyday life with greater confidence and ease.

If you’re feeling unsure about what your child needs, we’re here to help you sort through the questions and explore what support might look like for your family. Book an appointment with our team of pediatric therapists by visiting our website, link in bio.

One thing many parents don’t realize about speech delays is that they don’t always look like “not talking.”

Some children have large vocabularies and can speak clearly, but still struggle with communication in ways that are easy to overlook. They may have difficulty answering questions, telling stories in order, understanding directions, finding the right words, or keeping up with back-and-forth conversation. Others may become frustrated easily because they know what they want to say, but can’t fully express it.

Sometimes these challenges are mistaken for shyness, behavioral difficulties, inattention, or even personality traits when they may actually be connected to underlying language processing or communication difficulties.

Speech therapy is about much more than articulation. It helps children build the foundational communication skills needed for learning, social interaction, emotional expression, and confidence in everyday life.

At Proficio Therapy, we help children strengthen speech and language skills through individualized, supportive therapy designed around their unique needs. Early support can make a meaningful difference, especially when challenges are subtle and easy to miss.

Get to know our team!

We asked Michelle, who manages our partnerships, and Leanne, an ABA director, “What keeps you passionate about the work you do?”

For many of our clinicians, it’s the small, meaningful moments that stand out most. A child learning to communicate a need for the first time. A client gaining confidence during a social interaction. A breakthrough in a routine that once felt overwhelming. These moments may seem small from the outside, but they represent huge steps forward for the children and families we support.

It’s also the relationships that matter. Watching trust build over time, celebrating growth with caregivers, and being part of a child’s support system as they learn new skills creates a sense of purpose that goes far beyond any single session.

ABA therapy is structured, intentional, and data-driven, but at its heart, it’s deeply human work. It’s about helping children build skills that increase independence, communication, and confidence in everyday life.

We’re grateful for the dedication of our team and the families who trust us with their journey. If you’re looking for support, Proficio Therapy is here to help. Contact us today to book an appointment.

Autism care is not one-size-fits-all. It’s a collaborative, individualized approach that brings together multiple areas of support to help a child build skills, confidence, and connection in meaningful ways. ABA, speech therapy, and occupational therapy are most effective when they work together as part of a coordinated plan.

ABA therapy can support learning, behavior, and daily living skills by breaking goals into manageable steps and reinforcing progress. Speech therapy focuses on communication, spoken language, alternative communication systems, and social communication skills. Occupational therapy supports sensory needs, motor skills, emotional regulation, and the everyday tasks that build independence.

When these disciplines are connected, care becomes more cohesive. Progress in one area supports growth in another, creating a more supportive and consistent experience for the child across settings.

Schedule an appointment with us to ask specific questions on how your family may benefit from ABA, Speech Therapy, or Occupational Therapy.

As parents, it’s natural to wonder if your child is struggling more than they should with everyday tasks.

Maybe getting dressed turns into a daily battle. Perhaps your child avoids certain textures, has difficulty focusing, struggles with transitions, or becomes easily overwhelmed in busy environments. You may notice challenges with handwriting, coordination, emotional regulation, or completing age-appropriate tasks independently.

These moments can feel frustrating and confusing for both children and parents, but they can also be signs that your child may benefit from additional support.

Occupational therapy helps children build the skills needed for everyday life. Through individualized, play-based support, OT can help children improve fine motor skills, sensory processing, emotional regulation, coordination, independence, and confidence in daily routines at home, school, and in the community.

At Proficio Therapy, we work alongside families to better understand each child’s unique needs and help them develop skills that support success in everyday life. Small challenges don’t have to become overwhelming obstacles, support can make a meaningful difference.

May is recognized as National Speech-Language and Hearing Month. We use this time to highlight how essential communication is to a child’s growth, connection, and confidence. For parents, it can also be an opportunity to reflect on how their child is developing language skills and expressing themselves in everyday life.

Speech therapy supports the full spectrum of communication, including understanding language, expressing needs and emotions, social communication, and more. These foundational skills play a key role in how children engage at school, with peers, and at home.

It’s common for parents to have questions about speech and language development, whether their child is meeting milestones, or if certain challenges are worth exploring further.

It can feel overwhelming.
You don’t have to figure that out alone. Speech-language pathologists are here to assess needs, provide guidance, and support meaningful progress.

Our team works alongside parents to understand each child’s unique communication needs and build skills that foster confidence and connection. If you’ve been considering speech therapy, this month is a reminder that support is available, and early intervention can make a lasting impact.

Social interactions and independence skills don’t always develop naturally for every child, they are learned skills that often benefit from structured, supportive teaching.

You may notice your child has difficulty engaging with peers, joining group play, or sustaining back-and-forth interaction.

Social situations like recess, playdates, or group activities may feel overwhelming, leading to withdrawal or uncertainty about how to participate. Some children also struggle with understanding social cues like turn-taking, personal space, or how to appropriately respond in conversations.

Independence skills at home and school can also be challenging. This may look like needing frequent reminders for daily routines such as getting dressed, brushing teeth, or completing school-related tasks. Multi-step directions, transitions between activities, or initiating tasks independently may require ongoing support.

These challenges can impact confidence and limit opportunities for connection and independence over time.

ABA therapy helps children build these foundational skills through structured, individualized support, breaking skills into manageable steps and reinforcing progress in meaningful ways. Contact Proficio Therapy to book an appointment today.

Some signs of autism can be easy to miss, especially when they show up in ways that may seem subtle or are often mistaken for personality traits or developmental quirks.

Things like frequent fidgeting, intense focus on specific interests, avoiding eye contact, delayed speech development, or repeating the same words or phrases may sometimes be early indicators that a child is processing and experiencing the world differently. Every child develops at their own pace, and these behaviors do not automatically mean a child is autistic, but they can be important signs to pay attention to.

As parents, it can be hard to know what is part of typical development and what may warrant a closer look. Trusting your instincts matters. If you’ve noticed patterns that leave you with questions, seeking support and evaluation can provide clarity, guidance, and access to resources that help your child thrive.

Early identification can make a meaningful difference by helping children access the support they need to strengthen communication, build confidence, and develop important everyday skills.

If some of these signs sound familiar, we’re here to help. Our team supports families through evaluation, guidance, and individualized therapy services designed to help every child reach their full potential.
