Mechanical Engineering Major Emily Alfonso-Olmos ’27 has been named a recipient of the Prestigious Barry Goldwater Scholarship—one of the nation's top scholarships for undergraduate students pursuing research careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Alfonso-Olmos conducts research on laser-based optical flow diagnostic systems under the mentorship of David Shekhtman, PhD, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, and plans to pursue a PhD in mechanical engineering.

This past spring, through a collaboration with the City Bar Justice Center, a group of Fairfield Engineering graduate students had the opportunity to present their mid-semester projects to the New York City Bar Association.
Projects ranged from building AI robots to creating data visualizations through a LegalServer–Power BI connection, all of which made the most of existing tools while finding new ways to elevate their impact.

Follow along for a day in the life of a group of Fairfield Engineering students from the Engineering Without Borders chapter during their time in Costa Rica! 🇨🇷
Throughout the week, students partnered with local community members on meaningful, hands-on projects while gaining firsthand insight into the social, cultural, and environmental factors that shape engineering on a global scale. By staying with host families and exploring local landmarks and natural sites, students also experienced the rich culture and community of the region.
