Dear parents,
I recommend following Deborah L. Tillman. Her approach to parenting is empowering, straightforward and can benefit any parenting style. I appreciate her calm, mindful way of handling everyday discipline challenges.

Africa biome maps.
I love these maps stencils from Wasecca Montessori! These Africa maps really demonstrate how large the African savanna is and the vastness of the deserts!

There have been some discussions about the relevance of the pink tower and brown stair in the classroom lately. When should it be introduced? What sorts of uses do these aparatae have in the classroom?
This boy used to absolutely love the sensorial area when he was younger. He spent most of his day there - as he should. He is almost 5 now and doesn't spend as much time there anymore.
The other day he got out the brown stair, sequenced the prisms and started rolling a ball down it. I suggested that he get the extension booklet and try some different ways to sequence the prisms.
Then I suggested he get a pink tower and brown stair combo book out to see what he could do. He was inspired.

This morning we celebrated the summer solstice which will happen on Sunday.
We had a group time discussion about the Earth's axis and how the tilt gives us different amounts of sunlight and our seasons.
Next came all the fun projects!
The children strung sun sensitive color changing beads into bracelets. They were very impressed when they stepped outside!
They also made sunglasses, a sun on a stick and a paper doll with clothes in an envelope "closet".
We do love to have fun on special days!

The dads had a scroll to read while they waited for the children to come outside for the performance. The scroll contained a questionnaire the children answered about their dad.
After the performance they gave their fathers a mane to wear and a picture they made. The picture of a lion was made with their footprint and they wrote "Dad, you are the king!"
Here is the first of three songs the children sang to their dads for Father's Day. They have been practicing to remember the words and dances. I think they all did very well!👍🏼
This is the second song the children sang to their dads on our back deck this afternoon.
Our Father's Day performance. This is the third song the children sang to their dads. (They are playing air guitars in this one.😉
*Watch for Maxine's cameo!

After our Father's Day performance, the dads drove their children to the park to meet up with the rest of their families. We had a pot luck dinner and everyone had a chance to visit. The children loved the opportunity to play together outside of school.
I have noticed a real sense of community among the families. Parents get together for play dates and to go on joint family outings. It's nice to see these family friendships developing.
