Cottage Modern is a multigenerational lakeside retreat that reflects more than two decades of family traditions on Flathead Lake. After years of returning to Bigfork, Montana, each summer and winter, the homeowners transformed a property that once held a modest cottage into a permanent family compound designed to accommodate generations of gathering, recreation, and seasonal living. Adorning the exterior and interior are reclaimed and recycled wood species native to the area.

Partner Spotlight: Unilock

Buckingham Fountain | Chicago, Illinois

The Clarence F. Buckingham Memorial Fountain in Grant Park is one of Chicago's most recognized landmarks and the largest decorative fountain in the world. When the Chicago Park District and the Art Institute of Chicago moved forward with extensive renovations, the surrounding pavement had to solve for several priorities at once: ADA accessibility, stormwater management, historic appearance, and the ability to carry occasional heavy vehicle loads during events like Lollapalooza and the Taste of Chicago.

The original decomposed granite and pea gravel surface had served the plaza for decades but no longer met ADA guidelines. Designer Thompson D**e and Associates specified Eco-Priora permeable concrete pavers to meet every requirement without adding surface basins or underground storage chambers. The paver's 7mm spacer bars, filled with clear fine stone chip, allow rainwater to move rapidly into the sub-base and subsoil, satisfying the Chicago Department of Water Management's 2008 stormwater ordinance while keeping the project on budget.

Matching the historic look took equal attention. A custom color was developed to closely resemble the original gravel tone, paired with a Series finish of exposed granite and quartz aggregate. All three Eco-Priora shapes were used in the layout to reflect the fountain's heritage character across 236,000 square feet of new surface. Installed by LPS Paving, the result is a safer, smoother, fully accessible plaza that has set a new standard for pedestrian spaces across North America.
