UCCE Master Food Preservers of Solano and Yolo Counties prevent food waste by helping local food pantries preserve food that exceeds clients needs. Last week, they canned, dehydrated, and froze over 400 pounds of locally grown tomatoes. This week they rescued and safely preserved plums! The Master Food Preservers are currently accepting applications for the 2027 course.

Great job Amanda our very own MFP from Solano and Yolo Counties. Amanda is a great asset to our program sharing her passion and knowledge for preserving as well as her joy for participating in the CA State Fair👍🏽🫙 This years ribbons are for Best in Show, Jelly Show (Plum Raspberry) and Best in Show, Sauce & Salsa Show (Cranberry Ketchup) and of course the famed Golden Bear award 🐻.

Waste not, want not Wednesday! St Mark's Food Pantry partners with local growers. Wednesday the fresh fruit that wasn't distributed at the Pantry was donated to the Master Food Preservers who canned and froze the excess. 'Cooperative Extension'!
