FCSD in Five: What Potential Reductions Could Mean for Students

Over the past several weeks, we’ve shared information about the financial challenges facing Fairfield City School District and the potential reductions that would be necessary if the District does not increase revenue through a ballot issue by the end of the current school year.

At its meeting last night, the Fairfield City School District Board of Education approved the list of potential reductions.

In this edition of FCSD in Five, Superintendent Billy Smith takes a closer look at what those reductions could mean for our students, including the impact on student services and supports, programs, staffing, and opportunities throughout the District.

We encourage our community to take a few minutes to watch and learn more about what is at stake for Fairfield students.

Watch FCSD in Five to hear directly from Superintendent Smith.

Following a discussion at the August 20, 2026, FCSD Board of Education meeting, the Board voted last night to approve the list of potential tier 2 reductions that would take effect for the start of the 2027-28 school year if the District is unable to sufficiently increase revenue by the end of the 2026-2027 school year. This decision, while difficult, ensures transparency and provides the community with a clear understanding of the steps the district would be required to take if additional funding is not secured.

Community members can review the full list of potential reductions and find additional information by visiting our website at www.fairfieldcityschools.com and clicking on the "Financial/5-Year Earned Income Tax Facts" tab.

Fairfield Cross Country Opens the 2026 Season Strong!

Fairfield Cross Country kicked off the season at the Moeller Primetime Invitational last Friday, with our runners putting together a great showing!

The men’s varsity team finished an impressive 2nd out of 19 teams, continuing an incredible climb over the past few seasons. Sophomore Tsyler Hendrix led the way for Fairfield, finishing 17th out of 172 runners.

The women’s varsity team placed 11th out of 18 teams, led by senior Kyndle Ledbetter, who finished 39th out of 116 runners and came just shy of her personal-best time.

Congratulations to all of our Fairfield runners on a great start to the season! Next up: the Lebanon Invitational on Saturday, September 5.

What a great first two weeks at South! ❤️ Our students and staff have been busy building relationships, learning routines and expectations, and getting back into the rhythm of learning. Students have also been completing their i-Ready Inform assessments, giving teachers valuable information to help guide instruction and support each student’s growth.
We’re off to a great start! 🌟📚✏️

Every day, nearly 2,300 students walk through the doors of Fairfield High School to learn, build connections, pursue their passions and chase their dreams. Along the way, they are supported by teachers who make a lasting impact on their lives.

Friday morning, senior cheerleaders, dancers and band members, along with junior and senior football players, took time to recognize a teacher who has made a difference for them. Students visited their teachers’ classrooms to share kind words and present them with a certificate. Football players also brought practice jerseys as a special way to show their appreciation.

We are incredibly grateful for the teachers who show up for our kids every single day. A certificate or jersey could never fully express that gratitude, but these moments are a great reminder of just how much they mean to our students and our entire community.
