George Mason University has launched the Center for Satellite and Earth Science Research. Directed by Daniel Tong, the center will bring together researchers, Earth system models, and artificial intelligence to strengthen environmental resilience and protect public health.

Through interdisciplinary collaboration across leading universities, federal agencies, and industry, CESR will translate scientific discovery into actionable solutions, advancing George Mason’s Grand Challenge Initiative climate efforts.

This year, nearly a dozen Patriots earned nationally competitive fellowships and scholarships across a wide range of disciplines.

Together, the prestigious awards represent more than $168,000 in funding to support groundbreaking research, international study, and public service. From studying classroom AI use in Estonia to environmental policy in Virginia, George Mason talent is making a global impact.

A record-breaking 13 George Mason women’s rowing student-athletes have been named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete Team. The honor recognizes excellence in both academics and athletic competition.

To earn the honor, students must maintain a GPA of at least 3.50 while competing in at least 75 percent of their team's spring races.

Congratulations to these 13 Patriots who raised the bar in the classroom and on the water.

Students in George Mason’s College of Engineering and Computing are using innovation to make public spaces more accessible.

Supported through a GO Virginia-funded initiative led by Nexus234, a team of mechanical engineering students developed Salus, a robotic system that helps identify potential ADA accessibility barriers more efficiently.

Now working with George Mason’s Office of Technology Transfer to explore patenting, the team’s work highlights the power of experiential learning, innovation, and collaboration.

A transformative investment will help shape the future of quantum science at George Mason University.

A $3 million gift from George Mason faculty member Paul So’s SYYK Foundation will establish an endowed professorship in quantum science. This investment will help educate the next generation of innovators while accelerating interdisciplinary collaborations.

The gift also builds on George Mason's commitment to the future through its Grand Challenge Initiative, expanding educational opportunities and positioning Virginia as a leader in quantum technology.

Last month, Mason Korea held its Spring 2026 Commencement Ceremony at Incheon Global Campus, honoring 116 bachelor’s and master’s graduates. Dean Joshua Park joined the celebration, recognizing the accomplishments of the Class of 2026.

Graduates earned degrees across disciplines, including global affairs, business, economics, conflict analysis and resolution, and law, joining a growing network of George Mason University alumni.

Wherever their paths lead next, these graduates will carry forward the knowledge, perspective, and resilience they gained through their George Mason education. Congratulations!

From the soccer field at George Mason University to the global stage of FIFA, alumni are making an impact around the world.

Hollis Kosco, BA Speech Communication ’94, a member of George Mason’s 1993 NCAA national runner-up women’s soccer team and Alumni Association 2024 Alumna of the Year, now serves as a senior transportation manager for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Kosco credits her George Mason experience with helping her develop the communication skills, global perspective, and perseverance that have shaped her international career in sports management and operations.

Inspired by personal experiences and powered by hands-on learning, four graduating seniors in George Mason University’s College of Engineering and Computing developed a capstone project designed to make travel more accessible for people with mobility challenges.

The student team created B-Drive, an adaptive mobility technology that helps wheelchair users navigate transportation hubs more independently.

Supported through a GO Virginia-funded initiative led by the Nexus234 Innovation District, the project highlights how experiential learning, industry mentorship, and interdisciplinary collaboration at George Mason empower students to create solutions with real-world impact.
