A companion piece to her poem 'The Secret' (Posted on July 7, 2025), Kay composed 'The Lovers' this morning.
"The Lovers
There is something beautiful in the way they talk
A poetry in motion
Their love writing stars
And hanging the moon just for them.
And giving hope to the rest of us
that love is real.
All around us, their romance echos
Trapped in this space
Unable to be anywhere else
We hold their secret.
Of a love that cannot be."

Our Saturday morning group challenges themselves to group creative writing exercises. This past week, after discussing the steps of The Hero's Journey, they composed this:
"I can't begin to explain what happened.
I was on a flight, tapping my foot.
All the world moving too slow.
The call came in suddenly.
Beginning a harrowing journey.
Fast pace.
Too quick.
A journey I don't want but have to take.
Never knowing what I will find.
Artistic at heart, I am not built for stress.
Yet endure it I must"

RPM is primarily an education method, but that includes learning about writing techniques, strengthening communication, and building tolerance so you will also see creative writing produced in sessions.
After a lesson on figurative language including similes and metaphors, a student applied the material into a short poem:
How I want us,
who we honor,
I think is real;
stray no farther -
we are connected
as links in chains;
a masterpiece
of our own design.
Afterwards, we asked what they wanted to stray no farther from and they responded, "empathetic and caring."

One newer adult student took a break from their creative writing lessons to learn about luck last week. They extended the lesson and integrated their previous writing lessons to compose this poem:
Autistic Luck
Neurotype is neutral;
autistic behavior ranges
with norms disputed.
Am I lucky?
My broken speech,
disastrous body,
high support needed,
but it is given,
communication found.
I am lucky
and wish it different.
