A core component of the GBE PTA is to provide visibility and awareness about potential direct or indirect matters that may impact our GBE community.

Fairfax County School Board is considering revisions to this policy to potentially meet the challenges of overcrowding, classroom trailers, transportation and renovations.

Why is this important to the GBE community?
The challenges mentioned as a catalyst to the policy review already impact GBE today, specifically overcrowding (capacity), transportation and trailer classrooms.

Boundary Policy Review - Spring 2024 The Fairfax County School Board is updating the Boundary Policy to provide a clear roadmap for any potential future boundary changes.

What's going on at the GBE blacktop? (lengthy post, please read)
You may have noticed activity over at the school today. FCPS is installing a quad of trailer classrooms on the blacktop space at GBE. The WHY behind this is because GBE now has the third largest elementary school student population in Fairfax County. It's no secret we need space and we are not on the construction agenda. At the end of the day the blacktop was selected for its ADA access and the closest location for bathroom access.
So what about our blacktop?
Your new PTA board has concerns about playground overcrowding increasing the risk of injury to our students, and equal concerns that it limits opportunities for anxiety and stress release through athletic activity with no blacktop. We are working with Principal Pietzman to initiate a solution based conversations with FCPS around maximizing existing green space for new and exciting play opportunities for our students.
