Earlier this semester we completed our Spring 2024 14-Day Writing Challenge! We hold our 14-Day Writing Challenge twice a year to support graduate students in committing to writing for at least 30 mins per day, and participate in a community of support with their fellow grad students! We are incredibly proud of the dedication and hard work that the students participating put in this year, and we want to give a special shout-out to those who completed all 14 days of the challenge, and those who completed 11 or more days. We hope to see you for our Fall Writing Challenge!

Some moments of peace, creativity, and mindfulness at last week's Mindful Mosaic event 😌
This event was hosted with SPARK (Scholars Promoting Access, Representation, and Knowledge) as part of Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week! During this event, we provided a safe and welcoming space for minoritized graduate students and their lived experiences. The event started off with a healing music performance led by the CVPA to promote inclusion, healing, and community; then participants were invited to create their own art piece to take home while building community!

Thanks for joining us for Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week! 🙌🏽
Although there aren't any Grad Life events this week, we have a few coming up next week! Next Wednesday, April 17, we'll be hosting a Graduate Student Career Workshop: Job Searching Beyond the DMV, with University Career Services, George Mason University and Graduate Division at GMU !

Many of Mason’s top employers offer numerous opportunities beyond the DC metro area. Whether you are looking to relocate to a new city or climate, or back to your home state, a long-distance job search presents both unique challenges and expanded options. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to research regional job markets, evaluate salaries and cost of living, and tailor your application materials to jobs in your preferred field. For international students, a nationwide job search will maximize your opportunities for H1-B sponsorship in the United States. Register at https://cglink.me/2d7/r2163942 to receive the Zoom link.

Join Grad Life and Outdoor Adventures for a 5-mile hike to Catoctin Mountain Park in Maryland! This loop hike features multiple scenic overlooks and is rated as a “moderate” hike per the National Park Service’s hiking difficulty scale. Staffing and transportation are provided on this trip, and participants should bring lunch, snacks, water, and a sturdy pair of hiking footwear. The trip will meet at the Skyline Fitness Center on the Fairfax Campus, and depart from there.

For this event, we are holding a participation lottery, in an effort to make this opportunity equitable for all who are interested. Any Mason graduate student interested in and available to attend should complete the registration form. The first 50 people to complete the form will be entered into a lottery for the nine spaces on this trip; those students will be offered spaces and must submit required paperwork within three days of notification. Students will also be selected for additional waitlist spots in case spaces on the trip become available.
Due to limited capacity and expected demand, we ask that you register for the event only if you are sure that you will be able to attend and participate. Sign up at https://cglink.me/2d7/r2266138

Cancellation and Waitlist Policy: To accommodate as many interested Mason graduate students as possible, a waitlist will begin once a trip fills. If a registered student cancels their registration by 5:00pm on the Wednesday before the event, their space will be offered to the next student(s) on the waitlist. Any students canceling their registration with less than 72 hours notice will not be eligible to participate in future Graduate Outdoor Adventure trips during the 2023-24 year. There are limited spaces on this trip.

The form will open on March 26 at 10:30am and close on April 3 at 4pm, or when all 50 spots have been filled; whichever comes first. Please submit your form by this time if you are interested!

If you have any questions, please contact Graduate Student Life at [email protected].
