Have you ever considered hosting an au pair? Right now, new families in the DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia) can save $1000 on their program fees when you host with Cultural Care.
When you host an au pair, you have reliable and flexible childcare! Au pairs live with you and provide up to 45 hours a week of flexible childcare and child related chores (kids laundry, meal prep.) for approximately $420 per week. I am a local mom to the DMV and have hosted 7 au pairs myself and love the flexibility of the program- split shifts- morning/evenings, date nights!
All au pairs come with CPR and first aid certifications and they are up to date on their vaccinations. They have been vetted, and their background and references have been verified. We have infant qualified au pairs that have additional training and experience with infants under 2 years, and this is at no additional cost.
Reach out, I'd love to chat about my experience and if you decide to host, I'd love to share my many years of experience and work with you to find the perfect fit for your family. https://culturalcare.com/lcc/tbartlett

This week my au pair group hit the ice and showed us that cultural exchange isn’t just about learning new traditions—it’s about making memories. From wobbly first laps to confident spins, there were laughs, teamwork, and lots of cheering from the sidelines!
Hosting an au pair means more than childcare. It’s sharing experiences, building lifelong connections, and giving your kids a global perspective—💙🌍

I love being a Local Childcare Consultant because I get to welcome au pairs into our home during times of transition.
Being away from family during the holidays can be especially hard for au pairs. This Christmas, we hosted two—one from Switzerland and one from Colombia. When our Swiss au pair shared her family’s Christmas Eve fondue tradition, my kids were inspired to recreate it for her, planning a special dinner together that she loved. That evening we laughed, shared stories and bonded.
If you’d love to expose your children to new cultures and traditions, hosting an au pair is a beautiful way to do that. I’m always happy to share how this experience has enriched our family. Feel free to DM me or reach out:

One of the best parts of being a Local Childcare Consultant (LCC) is opening my home to au pairs in rematch. It’s a chance to get to know them firsthand and see just how amazing they are! 💛
There’s often a misconception that something is “wrong” with an au pair in rematch—but that’s almost never true. Most of the time, it’s just not the right fit for both sides. Staying with an LCC gives an au pair a chance to think about where they can shine and truly excel.
Take Michelle, for example. She’s 23 and from the Czech Republic. Her first match wasn’t the right fit, but when she came to live with my family, we immediately saw what an incredible person she is—and how she thrived as a role model for my two kids.
From day one, she bonded with my 11- and 12-year-olds. She helped with homework (hello, middle school math 😅), greeted them after school, played board games, listened to their stories—and became someone they genuinely looked up to, like a big sister.
Michelle quickly became part of our family. She joined us for dinners, decorated the Christmas tree with the kids, and created memories we’ll never forget. My kids loved having her around so much that they even offered their allowance to convince her to stay!
Michelle has since matched with a wonderful family in Pennsylvania—but there are many more “Michelles” still looking for their American family.
If you’re looking for flexible, reliable childcare with a meaningful cultural exchange, hosting an au pair may be the perfect option! As a host mom for seven years, I can honestly say having an au pair—especially during the holidays—gave us the chance to connect, share our traditions while having an extra set of hands during the school break and busy family events.

I took my au pair group to the Mormon Temple Festival of Lights last night and wow ✨—the whole place felt like walking through a Christmas dream. After wandering the glowing grounds, we ended the night in the theatre and watched the Polynesian cousins’ perform a medley of songs and dances celebrating Christmas in the islands.
It was such a beautiful way to expose the au pairs to our Christmas transitions as well as to see how Christmas is incorporated into the Hawaiian and other Pacific Island cultures and traditions. 🌺🎄✨
Feeling grateful for this little community and the moments that make the season shine a little brighter. ❤️

As a former host mom, some of my favorite memories are the holidays we spent together—passing down family recipes, tasting dishes from around the world, and discovering new flavors side by side. Moments like these are what make the au pair experience so special for our family.
Last year, we invited a German au pair over for dinner and made a cozy roast paired with traditional German sides like Spätzle, potato dumplings, and red cabbage. Not only were the dishes delicious, but they also gave us a beautiful glimpse into the traditions she grew up with—traditions we were thrilled to bring to our own table.
From empanadas to apple pie, dumplings to Sunday pancakes, it’s amazing how food has a way of bringing host families and au pairs together, creating one warm, blended family in the process.
