Meet the Redshirts! Ms. Bella began her AFYP journey as a student and has taught with us for two years. This summer, she's the Improv Assistant Teacher! Bella loves seeing the growth from the students especially when it comes to Improv: "Seeing the kids come out of their comfort zones is such a magical sight to see. Improv is silly and brave so it makes my heart soar to see that growth, joy, and laughter." Outside of AFYP, Bella is busy producing her play "The Road to the End" at the Capital Fringe Festival this summer. She will also begin production on a short film soon! 🎬

Be Our Guest! The purple, pink, white, and gold color palette is the iconic Mrs Potts look. For our Be Our Guest costumes, Ms. Kaela extended that aesthetic to the entire ensemble of silverware, plates, and napkins - and let it inspire the costumes of other characters such as Le Pume and Madame de la Grande Bouche.

Ms Kaela designed and created our ✨stunning✨ costumes for Beauty and the Beast Jr. this spring! We are excited to share the journey from page to stage for several of her magnificent creations πŸͺ‘

Rayan is an incoming freshman at Emerson College to study theatre, specifically playwriting and scenic painting - but for now, it's all about summer. Rayan is looking forward to meeting everyone at curbside in the mornings. "We'll be there, rain or shine!" β˜”οΈβ˜€οΈ

I am particularly excited, though, to meet all of our new campers and to see all of our returning campers!" Outside of her work at AFYP, Sofie is busy using her admin organizational skills and theatrical creativity to design and work on her own genetic research project as she works towards a B.S. in Biology at Mason. Meet the Redshirts ⭐️ It's the one and only Ms. Kaity, our Director of Programs & Outreach! Kaity has been a part of the AFYP fam since 2009 when she began teaching after-school classes while she was an undergraduate student at GMU. Over the years, she has played many roles at Camp and with Showcase, Touring Shows, and Admin. Camp is the best time of year, though: "I LOVE seeing all of our teachers come back (even from other states) for the summer and I always love Workshop Wednesdays!" Kaity is also excited to be part of such a stellar Admin team this summer. Kaity is a proud mom of twins, and outside of AFYP and raising toddlers, she spends her free time reading and cooking πŸ§‘πŸ»β€πŸ³

There are a few more days to submit your audition for this summer’s Musical Theater Performance Bootcamp!

Intermediate and advanced teen performers will join vocal instructor Emi Eiting, along with acting coaches and choreographers from Acting for Young People, for a week of musical theater skill-building! Students will quickly learn new repertoire focusing on vocal technique, musicality, interpretation and movement as they celebrate the tradition of Broadway and popular music. Students will also be taught how to make quality repertoire selections for themselves, and will be provided a list of repertoire from which to begin building their own musical theatre vocal library. The week will culminate in a high quality performance supported by professional musicians. This is an excellent opportunity for dedicated musical theatre performers!

All auditions must be submitted by May 9. Decisions will be sent to each applicant within the week.

This program runs from July 24-28. Application information is available at https://masonacademy.gmu.edu/acting/summer/musical-theater-performance-bootcamp/
