Early Identification Program Inspiring Excellence Through Education EIP work closely with public school division partners in the nomination, selection, and support of students each year.

Established in 1987, Early Identification Program (EIP) serves as the college preparatory program of George Mason University. With over 1,000 students who have graduated from the program, EIP provides access to educational resources for middle and high school students who will be the first in their families to attend a college or university. 600 students are currently enrolled in EIP due to our strategic partnership with seven local public school systems in Northern Virginia.

You asked, and we extended the deadline!

There’s still time to join EIP STEM Fusion — an exciting Saturday program designed for students in 8th–12th grade who want to strengthen their math and science skills while exploring where STEM can take them.

🌟 NEW APPLICATION DEADLINE: Sunday, October 12, 2026

Over five Saturday sessions, students will:�
- Build skills in core STEM subjects
�- Take part in hands-on STEM activities
�- Explore career electives like cybersecurity, engineering, and health sciences�
- Connect their classroom learning to real-world STEM opportunities

📍 Two GMU campuses:�• Fairfax Campus�• SciTech Campus in Manassas

Students will be assigned to a campus based on their school district. Non-enrolled students are welcome to apply, with priority given to EIP students and students from our seven partnering counties.

🌟 Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month: Rhina Alvarado

What started with one question from an 8th-grade teacher—“Have you ever thought about going to college?”—became the beginning of a lifelong EIP journey.

For Rhina, college was a new idea. She applied to EIP and became the only student selected from her school.

Years later, she returned to EIP—serving for 19 years in multiple roles and helping generations of students see new possibilities for their futures. Her EIP experience also inspired a 23-year career in higher education.

Today, Rhina serves as Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Student Affairs at NOVA and continues to champion EIP’s mission.

As EIP celebrates 40 Years of Futures, Rhina was inducted into the EIP Shield Society for her lasting commitment to our students, families, and community.

To Rhina, the EIP shield represents strength, unity, protection, and community—and the lasting impact of the experiences and relationships built through EIP.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate Rhina and the many EIP alumni whose stories continue to inspire what’s possible.

EIP students interested in math, science, and STEM careers — this opportunity is for you!

The STEM Fusion application deadline has been extended to Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.
STEM Fusion gives selected EIP students the opportunity to:
✨ Strengthen their math and science skills
✨ Explore STEM careers, including Health Sciences, Bioengineering, Computer Science, and Engineering
✨ Experience learning on a George Mason University campus
✨ Participate in five Saturday sessions during the 2026–2027 academic year

📍 Where will students attend?
Fairfax Campus: Students from Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church City, and Fairfax County
SciTech Manassas Campus: Students from Manassas City, Manassas Park, and Prince William County

🚌 Bus transportation is provided from partnering counties.

🌟 Celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month: Veronica Covarrubias

This National Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re celebrating Veronica Covarrubias, a proud EIP alumna and newly inducted Shield Society member as part of EIP’s 40th anniversary celebration.

Veronica’s EIP journey began in middle school. By her senior year, she became the first person in her family to apply to college, be accepted to a university, and receive the EIP full scholarship—a milestone made possible through hard work and the support of the EIP community.

Her connection to EIP continued after college as a Summer Academy mentor, Tutoring Coordinator, and Assistant Director. Today, she gives back through the EIP Scholarship Committee, helping open doors for the next generation of scholars.

Now a school counselor at Wakefield High School, Veronica has nearly 20 years of experience supporting students in academic advising, college and career readiness, and social-emotional development.

As we celebrate 40 Years of Futures, Veronica’s story reminds us that EIP’s impact continues through the alumni who lead, mentor, serve, and create opportunities for others.

Are you an EIP student interested in math, science, technology, engineering, or exploring STEM careers? STEM Fusion provides hands-on academic support and career exploration throughout the school year.

Students will participate in five in-person Saturday sessions at George Mason University, with opportunities to:
✨ Strengthen core math and science skills
💻 Explore interactive STEM career electives
🔬 Learn about fields such as cybersecurity, engineering, health sciences, and more
🎓 Experience learning on a George Mason University campus🚌 Receive transportation from participating EIP school districts
