George Mason University bioengineering student Berk Kasimcan spent his summer internship working on a proof of concept for what could be described as sunglasses for buildings.
Kasimcan is working alongside Harvard University psychology students and second-year PhD engineering and computing student Raphael Kay as they attempt to alleviate the damage that buildings experience throughout the years from radiation, heat, cold, and light.

The National Security Agency will host an informational session about their Summer Program for Operations Research Technology (SPORT) TOMORROW, Thursday, September 12, 2024, from 2 to 3 p.m. in Room 1602 of the Nguyen Engineering Building.
Students from all CEC disciplines are invited to attend.
Fourteen local high school students spent a week in August learning about renewable energy from electrical engineering professor Liling Huang and a host of local energy engineering professionals. At the end of the week, the students presented their work, a model town powered entirely by clean energy.

A $1.5 million study funded by the National Science Foundation will address the challenges involved in transitioning public bus fleets, including transit and school buses, to electric power.
The study is headed by Jie Xu, a professor at George Mason’s Department of Systems Engineering and Operations Research (SEOR).
SEOR's Ran Ji and Wenying Ji from the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Infrastructure Engineering are also on the project team.

On Friday, high school students who participated in the 2024 Exploring Renewable Energy Engineering Summer Camp presented their work -- a model town powered by clean energy -- to family and energy industry professionals.
A panel of energy industry professionals representing Dominion Energy, Amazon Web Services, the Solar Hands-on Instructional Network of Excellence, Elevate Energy, AES Clean Energy, and NOVEC also shared insights with the students and their families about shaping a career in the industry.

A group of local rising high school juniors and seniors attended the BioE Buzz Summer Camp hosted by the Department of Bioengineering at George Mason University in June. Led by computer science professor Rob Pettit, students traveled to Vienna over the summer for a six-week immersive study abroad program.
Students attended classes at the renowned Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien), and Pettit held lectures for CS 321 Software Engineering, in which students gained hands-on experience with team-based agile software development practices in preparation for their transition to industry.
