(CHPRE) works to advance and disseminate knowledge about current topics and developments in public health policy and the health care system, and the ethical issues that emerge in the life sciences, health care, health policy, and clinical research. x, Virginia. It houses teaching and research faculty as well as graduate students, who conduct, publish and speak about scholarly research and policy analysis, convene forums, and provide expert commentary to national, international, and regional media along with technical assistance to policy makers. The mission of CHPRE is to improve health policy and its impact on people’s lives by adding to and clarifying the evidence base and ethical principles from which policy is developed and with which it is implemented. The passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the continuing debate over its repeal, revision, and state-by-state implementation, provide the context for much of the work of CHPRE. CHPRE pursues its mission through non-partisan research, commentary and public speaking, technical assistance to public and private decision makers, and convening public forums. Topics in CHPRE’s purview include: insurance market performance and reforms, incentive realignment and quality improvement in health service markets, health workforce, population health, equitable access to health resources, transforming the US health system to become sustainable, the ethics of bioethics and global health justice with a special emphasis on international migration of health workers. We are particularly interested in developing narratives that will help bridge the partisan divides that have prevented Americans from addressing health system reform. The purpose of health policy research is to improve health policy debates, policy development, and implementation. CHPRE work is directed at the national, state, and local levels, for all three have unique roles to play in enabling health policy to improve real people’s lives. HEALTH ETHICS OVERVIEW
A major share of our efforts at the Center for Health Policy Research and Ethics aim at cultivating the moral imaginations of students and professionals in health policy, health care, public health, and related fields, and empowering them by strengthening their capacities to identify ethical issues and make better decisions informed by moral perception and reasoning. Center faculty have expertise in bioethics, public health and health policy ethics, and research ethics.
