Mason’s Media, Arts, Design, and Communication Internship and Career Fair will include a series of breakout sessions featuring Mason alumni discussing various career topics in the arts. Mason alumnus Kevone Bennett was a psychology major with a background in music and is now based in the Bay Area as a User Experience Researcher at YouTube Music. Kevone will discuss his career trajectory and share insights on how to leverage arts and humanities degrees for tech internships and jobs. FUNDING OPPORTUNITY!

Mason’s College of Visual and Performing Arts announces its third annual Young Alumni Commissioning Project with the goal of providing crucial support for our recent alumni’s artistic development. Up three recent CVPA alumni (2010 graduate or later) will be commissioned with funding of up to $5,000 to be used at the artist’s discretion to cover project-related expenses, including but not limited to: artist fees, licensing fees, equipment rental/purchases, and travel expenses, plus production and marketing support for a public presentation of the work at or through a Mason venue. Join us for a virtual information session on Thursday, January 21. Application deadline is Friday, February 5.

This teacher was called to protect the U.S. Capitol as a National Guard member. He now holds class from a Humvee. 01/19/2021

Washington Post feature on Jacob Kohut, two-time Reva and Sid Dewberry Family School of Music graduate, now serving in the National Guard to protect the U.S. Capitol while continuing as a Fairfax County Public Schools band teacher.

This teacher was called to protect the U.S. Capitol as a National Guard member. He now holds class from a Humvee. “I would rather teach the class, even if that means I’m very tired,” said D.C. National Guard Sgt. Jacob Kohut, who teaches class on his breaks.

Dr. Paul Chinen (Music, ’14) is one of seven College of Visual and Performing Arts alumni to receive an Alumni Artist Support Initiative award. Tomorrow at 12:30 PM, Dr. Chinen will offer a living room concert and digital masterclass featuring Alyssa Morris’ Collision Etudes for solo oboe, followed by an opportunity for viewers to ask questions live. The Collision Etudes are a set of six short programmatic etudes inspired by six pieces of art by female American painters.
