Last week, GMU SURE, and our Faculty Advisor Dr. Padmanabhan Seshaiyer was awarded the "2018 Programs the Work Award" by the Virginia Mathematics and Science Coalition. This award commemorated the achievements of the members of the program which started our organization, Project P.R.O.G.R.E.S.S.. This project created a class held in the summer of 2016 by the College of Science at George Mason University, which was committed to instilling Multidisciplinary and Interdisciplinary collaboration on Scientific Innovation. To this day, GMU SURE has been committed to this ideal, ensuring scientific innovation is not only left to the scientists. In total we have 14 active members from History Majors to Electrical Engineering Majors. All of whom, continue to advance innovations in renewable energy through research and development, and are on the track to become innovating and progressive professionals after university. Hey guys! I just wanted to inform you of an upcoming research and study abroad program that is about to become reality if our faculty advisor, Dr. Padhu, is awarded funding. The program would consist of: designing and working with a team of multidisciplinary individuals, to design and build a solar energy unit in another country, and analyzing the needs of individuals in need to provide them with a cheap and reliable source of energy. this study abroad opportunity would be approximately 2 weeks in the summer of this year. The deadline of the funding application is by the middle of this week, and Dr. Padhu would like to know if up to 12 people have interest in this program to give the application weight. How many interdisciplinary groups that you know use trigonometry to design the legs of a solar unit just right 👌🏻?

Today's Research and Development was a success! We took the time to analyze one of our Sun Saluters before we begin designing improved models for 3 different locations of interest. We learned about the inverse square law and how it relates to solar panels, as well as the basics of electronics, and the difference between AC and DC power. Next R&D we will be in our design phase and using Autodesk Fusion 360 and Autodesk Inventor to model these designs.

Hey there guys! I hope you all are having a wonderful break thus far, and that you had a wonderful fourth of July. GMU SURE, Green Patriots and Alpha Kappa Chi are planning to create an event during welcome week at the beginning of the Fall semester this year and get Freshman interested and involved with our groups fresh off the boat.
