Happy still summer! Kim Sloan wants to let you know about positions available in the Fairfax School District:
My system, the FCPS Interagency Alternative Schools, is in desperate need of a middle school reading teacher and a middle school math instructor for the fall. The school is in Alexandria. ?
If they are, they can contact me at [email protected] OR my assistant administrator Alison Cordo at [email protected]
Please let anyone who might be interested know about this opportunity.
The end is in sight!
(the end to the school year). NWP is offering a little self-care for teachers this summer through their Summer Learning series, on the Write Now Teacher Studio. If you haven't joined the Studio, you're missing out--see what's offered in this series in the picture-less blurb below.
Still trying to remember how to work Facebook--Leslie
Write Center’s 2023 Summer Learning Series
The past three years have shown us that self-care is no longer a luxury. Teachers need relief, encouragement, and healing from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their lives in and out of school. Current challenges to K-12 education also call for teachers to tend to their well-being and to remember what inspired them to become teachers.
Based on the National Writing Project motto "Write-Learn-Lead," we invite you to write together, learn together, and prepare to lead together as you explore self-care, revitalize yourself and your teaching, and advocate for others with three leading scholars and experts in the field: Brynn Saito, Yolanda Sealey-Ruiz, and Cathy Fleischer.
Write with Brynn Saito: Thursday, June 29th, 2023
from 10-11:30am PT | 1-2:30pm ET
Across cultures and time periods, people have turned to poetry in times of joy, crisis, and mourning. Reading, reciting, and writing poetry can be a reparative act—especially when done in community.

Learn with Yolanda Sealey-Ruiz: Thursday, July 6th, 2023
from 10-11:30am PT | 1-2:30pm ET
By bearing witness to each other's stories, reading and writing poetry, and reflecting and meditating on special moments in their lives, this workshop invites teachers to learn to make a serious commitment to finding joy and peace in teaching, and practice self-care in the moment and for the school year ahead.

Lead with Cathy Fleischer: Thursday, July 13th, 2023
from 10-11:30am PT | 1-2:30pm ET
In this workshop, you’ll learn ways to develop your personal stories of teaching into a more public narrative, starting from anecdotes and building toward an action plan to advocate for students and teachers.

Opportunity!
We have an opening in our Writing Studio at Reagan Middle School in Prince William County for next year. I was wondering if you knew anyone who might be interested in joining us up here?
What we are looking for:
Team player; wants to be part of building a project-based course that progresses from 6th-8th. Grow writer confidence and creativity. 🙂
Must be willing to try something, reflect, and try again or try something new. We are not set in our ways. 🙂
Looking to establish a core team - so preferably not someone who sees themselves exiting the classroom in the next few years. I am happy to answer all questions anyone may have.
Send interests and questions to Sarah Crain at [email protected]

Thanks, John Dutton, for including NVWP in your ScribbleCon Saturday, Feb. 11. Wonderful to see so many enthusiastic young writers and equally enthusiastic teachers!
