Assistant Professor Maria Uriyo and coaches from their non-profit organization successfully guided the IronMechs 2.0 middle school team at the 2024 VEX Robotics World Championship in Dallas, Texas. Competing among 498 teams worldwide, the IronMechs 2.0 team won the Energy Award for their Division.

PBS Newshour Classroom interviewed and photographed the team and coaches, with videos pending release.

A new study led by Gilbert Gimm, associate professor in the Department of Health Administration and Policy at George Mason University College of Public Health, found that a greater share of US adolescents and young adults with cognitive disabilities engaged in past-month ni****ne va**ng (14.2%) compared to those without a disability (9.6%). The study also found that having a major depressive episode (MDE) is significantly associated with ni****ne va**ng among adolescent and young adults.

Attention undergraduates! Explore this exciting opportunity for the Student Research Prize!

Mason Libraries are pleased to announce a new round of the Mason Libraries Undergraduate Student Research Prize, a program designed to support the pursuit of excellent undergraduate research at George Mason University!

This program is made possible by the generosity of many donors (including alumni, friends, and university faculty and staff) who contributed to the creation of the Libraries’ new Student Research Endowment, with the initial challenge gift coming from the members of the Libraries’ Advisory Board.

One prize of $1,000 is available for the spring 2023 semester. If a group project is selected to receive the prize, the award amount will be divided equally among the members of the group. The award is for one academic year and is not renewable.

Criteria and Eligibility:
-Open to currently enrolled George Mason University undergraduates from any discipline.

-The research paper or project (by an individual or a group) must have been completed in a George Mason University course (taken for credit) during the prior twelve months.

Application Requirements:
In the application, please include your name, major, year of study, the course the research paper or project was completed for, the term that course was taken, and the associated professor. Please also include the research paper or project as an attachment. Applications must be submitted via email to [email protected] by 11:59 p.m., Friday, March 1, 2024. Late applications will not be accepted.

Selection Process:
Undergraduate student prize applications will be reviewed by a selection committee appointed by the Dean of Libraries. The selected recipient will be notified prior to the end of the spring semester.
