As a vocalist and choir director in Colorado, Avery Cotham learned to listen carefully, collaborate and navigate group dynamics. These skills served her well in earning her master's degree from the Carter School and in her internships at a conflict resolution center and at the Department of the Interior. Avery now brings harmony to others in our community as a mediation contractor.

College of Engineering and Computing at George Mason University Computer Science professor Keren Zhou has received a Department of Energy Genesis Award for breakthrough AI- High-Performance Computing research. His project tackles a critical bottleneck: reducing supercomputer simulation tuning from months to seconds to accelerate discovery.

Congratulations to our August Employee of the Month, Elizabeth Foy! 

Elizabeth has served as a lab manager in George Mason’s Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry College of Science at George Mason since 2014, supporting both the Fairfax and SciTech campuses. She oversees the preparation and distribution of chemistry lab materials, helping ensure students and faculty have everything they need for successful, hands-on learning.
 
Her colleagues consistently recognize her dedication, attention to detail and commitment to excellence, describing her work as the foundation of successful lab instruction.

SixDegrees.org hosted a Building Kits by Kevin Bacon activation on George Mason’s Fairfax Campus on July 19, bringing together more than 100 volunteers to assemble 35,000 meal kits and 400 mental health kits for students and families across Northern Virginia.

Quentin Sanders, an assistant professor in George Mason's College of Engineering and Computing, is developing an affordable hand exoskeleton in the form of a lightweight glove to help stroke survivors regain hand function. Robotic technology that detects and amplifies remaining muscle activity would be an encouraging development for the 800,000 survivors of strokes each year.

Quentin Sanders is developing a new generation of hand exoskeletons that may help people regain independence after stroke.

George Mason volleyball player Camryn Weldon, a business major, is balancing an internship at Leidos with preparing for her season. Camryn credits her athletic experience with building the confidence to lead in the workplace. This Patriot setter is setting herself up for career success!

Like many George Mason University students, business major Camryn Weldon is spending her summer doing an internship.
