La serie de tres charlas sobre carreras en ciberseguridad con Junaid Khan concluyó este pasado martes, 14 de abril.

Durante esta última sesión, Junaid enfatizó la importancia de obtener las tres certificaciones básicas, además de certificaciones en la nube como AWS o Google, dada la prevalencia de la tecnología en la nube en las empresas de hoy en día.

Nos reuniremos de nuevo en un mes con los estudiantes que estén listos para presentar el examen de la primera certificación: CompTIA A+. Junaid les hará preguntas técnicas para evaluar su nivel de preparación.

Cybersecurity careers three-talk series with Junaid Khan wrapped up this past Tuesday, April 14.

During this last session, Junaid stressed the importance of pursuing the three basic certifications, plus cloud certifications such as AWS or Google, given the prevalence of cloud technology in today’s businesses.

We will reconvene in a month with the students who are ready to take the exam for the first certification in CompTIA A+. Junaid will be asking technical questions to assess the participants’ level of readiness.

Hispanics for STEM thanks Junaid Khan for the time and dedication he has put into this process. We also thank the students who accompanied us throughout.

We are cognizant of the challenges that self-studying poses for Hispanic students and families. We don’t dismay. We believe that for our community to position itself in today’s competitive market, it requires self-discipline, consistency, determination, and ambition.

We hope that some students from this group will succeed in the exam for the first certification.

¡Las carreras en ciberseguridad con Junaid Khan procedieron con éxito!
La segunda sesión de las charlas en línea se reanudó el pasado martes 7 de abril con un grupo comprometido y entusiasta de estudiantes de diferentes edades y áreas de estudios.

En esta oportunidad, Junaid se centró en una de las primeras certificaciones recomendadas en nuestro recorrido: A+.

De hecho, al completar esta certificación quedas calificado para un puesto de Help Desk o Soporte de TI con un salario inicial entre 45 mil y 65 mil dólares.

Uno de los estudiantes preguntó si podía postularse a un empleo una vez que completara esta certificación, y Junaid respondió que absolutamente sí, pero lo animó a continuar su camino de aprendizaje con otras certificaciones. CompTIA A+ es solo el primer paso y no debemos detenernos ahí.

Una de las cosas más interesantes de perseguir una carrera en ciberseguridad es que puedes hacerlo sin costo. Por ejemplo, Junaid recomendó los videos de del Profesor Messer.

También recomendó practicar en diferentes plataformas como y para prepararse para el examen. Estas plataformas no son gratuitas y requieren una pequeña inversión. Presentarse al examen oficial de la certificación tampoco es gratis, pero tiene un precio razonable. Aprendimos que se puede tomar el examen en línea o de forma presencial.

Junaid desafió al grupo a completar todos los módulos de la excelente plataforma gratuita en línea TryHackMe para la próxima sesión, que se llevará a cabo el próximo martes 14 de abril, y los estudiantes aceptaron el desafío con una actitud decidida.

Por cierto, Hispanics for STEM también aceptó el desafío y abrimos una cuenta en TryHackMe. ¿Adivinen qué? Resultó que somos buenos para el Red Team (hackers éticos + engagement (acuerdos con las empresas para explorar las debilidades internas en terminos de su red de computadoras).

Cyber security careers with Junaid Khan proceeded successfully!

The second session of the online talks resumed last Tuesday, April 7 with a committed and enthusiastic group of students of different ages and areas of expertise.

In this opportunity, Junaid focused on one of the first recommended certifications in our journey: A+

In fact, completing this degree makes you qualified for a Help Desk or It Support job with a starting salary between 45k-65k!

One of the students asked whether he could apply for a job once he completes this certification, and Junaid noted that absolutely but encouraged the student to proceed with his learning journey with other certifications. CompTIA A+ is the first step and we should not stop there.

A cool thing about pursuing a career in cybersecurity is that you can do it at no cost. For instance, Junaid recommended the videos of Professor Messer.

He also recommended practice in different platforms such as and for taking the exam. These platforms are not for free and requiere a small investment. Taking the actual exam for the certification is not for free either but a reasonable price. We learned that we can take the exam online or in person.

Junaid challenges the group to complete all the modules of the wonderful free online platform TryHackMe for the next session which will take place on next Tuesday, April 14 and the students accepted the challenge with a determined attitude.

BTW- Hispanics for STEM has also accepted the challenge and we opened an account on TryHackMe. Guess what? It turned out that we are good for the Red Team (ethic hackers + engagement).

¡Reunión en línea muy exitosa para lanzar las Carreras en Ciberseguridad con Junaid Khan el jueves 2 de abril

!Un maravilloso grupo de estudiantes de diferentes edades y áreas de interés se unieron a la llamada para conocer a Junaid y aprender sobre su trayectoria en el campo de la .

Junaid ofreció un (hoja de ruta) sobre cómo pasar de no tener ningún conocimiento ni experiencia en TI o ciberseguridad a conseguir un trabajo de seis cifras, siempre y cuando se ponga el esfuerzo diario.

Como enfatizó Junaid, obtener conocimiento y en este campo requiere consistencia: al menos una hora al día de estudio y práctica (¡y se pueden tomar los fines de semana libres!).

Este es el primer grupo que se reunirá en dos sesiones informativas adicionales. Estaremos monitoreando su progreso de cerca.

Se ha creado un chat de WhatsApp para apoyar a estos estudiantes en su camino.

Very successful online meeting launching Cybersecurity Careers with Junaid Khan on Thursday, April 2nd!

A wonderful group of students from different age groups and areas of interests, joined to call to meet Junaid and learn about his journey in the field of .

Junaid provided a to how to get from a point of no knowledge or experience in IT or cybersecurity to a six figure job provided that we put in the daily effort!

As Junaid emphasized, to obtain knowledge and in this field, requires consistency, at least one hour a day, studying and practicing (and you can get the weekends off!)

This is a first group that will meet for two additional informative sessions. We will be monitoring its progress closely. There is WhatsApp chat created to support these students in their journey.

We are hopeful that many will complete their certifications and achieve their goals.
