I borrowed this from a firefighter who was a member of the first drill school class I taught. Excellent thoughts to close out 2018 and start the new year.

Consider the six questions below:

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.

2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.

3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America pageant.

4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.

5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.

6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.

The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers.

They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten.

Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Now consider these questions:

1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.

2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.

3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.

4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.

5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.

Easier?

The lesson: The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money ... or the most awards. They simply are the ones who care the most.

Thanks for all the interest. So far I have intent to buy from (in the order I received your reply): Higby Notch (x2), Crystal Blevins, Col Michael Alan Keener, RJ Bohannon, Carrie Blevins, Jayde Kiefer, and Laurie Herman Hutchins, and an "interested" from Sherry Carlson. I captioned each picture with the number of cylinders I have available of each type. Let me know what you want and I will let you know if it is available based on the order above. Thanks again!

To raise funds for our Color Guard uniforms, we are selling lamps we are making from condemned SCBA cylinders. I have seen these on Etsy for $75 or more. We have about $20 in lamp parts in each one we make so I think $50 is a fair price. This is our prototype and is one of only 2 blue cylinders we have; I will post pictures of the other cylinders and buyers can specify which cylinder they want. Shade and bulb not included.
To summarize: SCBA cylinder lamps, $50! Great gifts for yourself or the firefighter in your life.

Thursday was a bittersweet day for us at the Academy. Family circumstances necessitated that Dylan Bristoe of Battalion 19 would move out of state. To recognize his contributions to the program, we made him Student Assistant Chief for the day. Before he left he completed his 150 hours of training to become a Certified Kentucky Firefighter. We'll miss you Dylan!

These quotes from a bulletin board in the school's main building are right on point. I recently read about the "prototyping mindset" for developing new parts by adopting the idea of "failing fast and failing forward" and thought how that philosophy can be applied to personal growth as well.
