GeoFORCE Alaska GeoFORCE is a 4 year field geology program at UAF. We serve rural high school students from the North Slope, Northwest Arctic and the Interior. Apply today!

Each summer, we host a two-week field trip to different locations in Alaska and the US. GeoFORCE Alaska is a four-year, field-based, summer geoscience program for high school students from Alaska’s North Slope and Northwest Arctic Boroughs. The curriculum is developed and delivered by the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) College of Natural Science and Mathematics (CNSM) in partnership with th

e longstanding GeoFORCE Texas program. GeoFORCE Alaska takes students to a different region of the United States during each of the four consecutive summers. The curriculum builds across the four summer ‘Academy’ trips. In addition to reinforcing grade-level expectations, the Academies introduce progressively more challenging field projects. Day 12 - The group rafted the Green River today! The views were spectacular! The group also had the opportunity to see petroglyphs left from the Fremont culture, the most famous being the Fremont petroglyph.
The Uinta Mountains are a large anticlinal fold that was formed by uplift. The Green River made its path through the canyon as the range rose around it. For some interesting reading: https://geology.utah.gov/map-pub/survey-notes/glad-you-asked/the-curious-case-green-river-uinta-mountains/
