The Nanooks are working hard. We appreciate the continued support from the Alaska DNR- Division of Forestry (DOF) and the wildland fire community. The partnership between UAF and the SOA has continued to grow over time and we appreciate the efforts.

Good morning from the Kenai where containment for this 102 acre fire has increased to 80%. We are happy to report a heavy cloud cover this morning over the Kenai which will help the crews again today with their mission of gridding and mopping up. Resources assigned to Type 3 Incident Management Team lead by Incident Commanders Bryan Quimby & Torrey Short today include:

2 Hand Crews (36 persons) - Gannett Glacier Fire Crew and the Nanooks UAF Wildland Fire Crew Type 2 Crew
Kenai Helitack (3 persons)
Type 2 medium helicopter
Type 3 light helicopter
Type 3 light Initial Attack helicopter
Helibase and helicopter managers and support (7)
Operations/support/overhead specialists (11)

The Nanooks are currently propositioned in McCarthy Alaska due to high fire danger. While prepoed we are currently working on the Forestry kiosk to show the general public what Firewise specs look like around their homes. The crew is working hard and very appreciative of the work.

The UAF Nanooks have started crew training. Items covered so far include the annual RT130 Refresher, Pack Test, S212 and several hard days of PT. Everyone is doing well.
