Tanana District 4-H The Tanana District 4-H program serves the interior of Alaska. Geographically, this area is as large as some states. This work is supported by the U.S.

The Tanana 4-H District extends from Healy in the south up to Fairbanks and on to Tok in the northeast. We have children involved in 4-H projects including horse, livestock, horticulture, home economics, technology and just about anything else you can think of. Ignite by 4-H is an annual four-day national youth conference held in Washington, D.C., where high school teens gather to explore career pathways, build leadership skills, and connect with peers from across the country. Hosted by the National 4-H Council, the event empowers young people to find their "spark" and gain practical tools for post-secondary and career success.

Core Programming Tracks
Agriscience: Covers modern agricultural technology, soil science, hydroponics, renewable energy, and sustainable food systems.

Animal Science: Focuses on veterinary science, livestock management, animal nutrition, and ethical care practices.

STEM: Explores real-world applications in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Healthy Living: Examines physical wellness, nutrition, mental health, emotional well-being, and active lifestyles.

What Campers Will Experience

Virtual Reality Agriculture Tours

Put on a VR headset and travel across the globe in seconds. Campers will take immersive, 360-degree virtual tours of local farms—all without leaving camp.

Drone Aviation & Precision Ag

Take to the skies with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Youth will learn:

Flight Fundamentals: Master safe handling, controls, and flight mechanics.

Rules of the Sky: Understand basic safety protocols and FAA guidelines for safe operation.

Ag Possibilities: Discover how farmers use drones for aerial crop scouting, field mapping, livestock tracking, and precision resource management.

Hands-On AgTech Challenges

Shelby is a member of the Free Rangers 4-H Club. He is currently president of his club. He is 14 years old and has completed the 8th grade. Shelby has a turkey, a lamb, and chickens for auction. He says he enjoys 4-H because it provides him with numerous valuable skills and makes great friends. He is also a part of the Midnight Sun Swim Team.

Rosie is a member of the Forget-Me-Not 4-H Club. She is 16 years old and has completed the 10th grade at IDEA Homeschool. Rosie has a finished beef and a pig for auction. Her interests are chickening, painting, drawing, singing, and writing. She says she has been in 4-H for 9 years and hasn't hated a second of it.

2026 4-H Market Livestock Spotlight:


Dean is a member of the North Pole Ptarmigan 4-H Club. He is 17 years old and has completed the 11th grade at Hutchison High School. Dean has a finished beef, a pig, and a turkey for auction. This is Dean's fifth year in 4-H. He has grown from raising goats, to turkeys, to swine, and now beef. His other interests are wrestling and riding his dirt bike.

He says being in 4-H not only equips you with valuable skills but also fosters lasting friendships. His interest is in lifeguarding and is on the North Pole High School swim team
