Learning from place, culture, community—and one another.

Earlier this month, Educators Rising Alaska student leaders, Teacher Leaders, and Alaska Statewide Mentor Project educators came together in Juneau for an immersive learning experience focused on connection, leadership, and education in Alaska.

The experience culminated at Sealaska Heritage Institute’s Our Cultural Landscape: Culturally Responsive Education Conference, where participants joined educators and community members from across Alaska to learn, reflect, and explore culturally responsive approaches to education.

From experiencing Juneau together to learning alongside Alaska educators, the immersion created opportunities for our current and future educators to build relationships, broaden their perspectives, and think about what it means to serve students and communities across our state.

Here are a few highlights from the journey!

Day 1 is underway!

Today, we're excited to kick off the 2026 Educators Rising Alaska Student Officer & Teacher Leader Immersion, alongside Alaska Statewide Mentor Project (ASMP) Professional Development - then starting tomorrow we will join together for the Sealaska Heritage Institute Conference.

This week is all about learning, building relationships, celebrating culture, and strengthening the future of education in Alaska. We're grateful to bring together students, educators, mentors, and leaders from across the state to learn from one another.

A heartfelt thank you to Sealaska Heritage Institute for hosting this incredible event and creating meaningful opportunities for learning and connection.

We'd also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Angela A. Lunda, Dean of the UAF School of Education, for her support and leadership in helping make this experience possible.

Here's to a great week of learning, collaboration, and inspiration!
