Dancing with the Spirit connects youth and elders through school music programs and camps – promoting spiritual, physical, and mental wellness with music.
This project is modeled on a 4H Bluegrass and Old-time Music and Dance Camp that has been held in Cordova, Alaska for the past 17 summers. Over the past five years- through funding that has come to the Alaska Diocese of the Episcopal Church plus schools and tribal councils - we’ve funded 12 summer camps and 42 weeks of school programs in villages. Galena Kids Summer Music Camp this week Tuesday-Thursday 1-5 pm at the Community Hall during Denakkanaaga! Josephine Malemute is the camp director! It's part of Dancing with the Spirit and we're bringing a band to play for dances!

Today's the Mar. 16th Honor the Elders Dance at the Morris Thompson Cultural Center featuring the fiddling of the Rev. Dr. Chief Trimble Gilbert from 6 pm to midnight. It's a fundraiser for Dancing with the Spirit village music program. And tomorrow is the St. Patrick's Day St. Matthews Church Service at 10:30 am featuring Native musicians.
