Just thought I would share! There is also Midnight Sun that swims at Hamme. (Someone shared the link below!) Not sure when try outs are. Stingray has also started doing swimming lessons. Coach Zac is a great teacher. Times and signup is on their website.

As we have our meet & greets at new schools and feeling are being felt, please remember they did not close PLC. It was a result of a system that is failing all our students. The staff at each school has been working hard to create a welcoming environment to ALL. So whether you are transitioning go an otter, whale, or falcon let’s show them kindness and respect. I promise they will love and care for your child as much as we did. So take a breath, smile, and show our children that new beginnings can be full of possibilities. You set the tone.

Hey Families.
Serious conversation here. Have you considered submitting your application for the free and reduced lunch program? Are you unsure if your family would qualify? I have shared the income requirements below. Just a family of 3 people making $61K a year qualifies for reduced! If you do qualify for even reduced but would not choose to use it, please still complete the application. This is not just about qualify for meals. Did you know this program is how schools qualify for Title 1 status. Both Anne Wien and UPark are currently Title 1 schools. The shift is student population has a chance of knocking both schools out of this status. For the district as a whole, just 7 Title 1 schools bring in 12% of our budget in Title 1 funds. These funds help pay for tutors, extra teachers(reduced class sizes), requiring highly qualified teachers in the positions, additional teacher training, additional teaching resources, after school programs, and so much more. Title 1 helps ensure no one falls behind whether they are part of the meal plan or not. We need everyone to do their part. So please fill out the application. It is all confidential! Thank you.

I know it is crazy to think about but the first day of school is just 5 weeks away! Many families have been worried about child care options. To help families adjust to the new schools, I put together information about before and/or after school care options at UPark and Anne Wien. Now is time to secure your child care options. I hope all you Puffins have been having a wonderful summer!

Edit: it sounds like Thriv Is experiencing staffing issues. Thanks for sharing. As this was the last info shared by principals and I am not calling for updates, some options may change. Please feel free to share updates for other families.

P.S. the 21st Century After School Program is new to UPark this year. The entire federal program was proposed to be cut in the FY26 budget and the current administration has froze over $6B in after school funding. What impact this is having now, I do not know, but it’s a great thing to ask our legislators about!
