Students put on their artistic hats today as they brought their chosen rural Alaska communities to life!

In ECON F111X, student groups dive into the unique economics of rural Alaska communities - exploring what makes each village tick and what factors shape their local economies.

Group Bethel highlighted some of the key pieces that keep their chosen community moving, including the airport, schools, hospital, subsistence activities and, of course… taxis! 🚕

Kick off the fall semester at UAF’s welcome-back celebration and annual student engagement fair.

Join us Thursday, August 27, from 12–3 p.m. in Constitution Park to explore everything UAF has to offer. Meet student clubs and organizations, connect with fellow Nanooks, check out activities and demonstrations, and find new ways to get involved on campus.

CBSM is excited to introduce this semester’s UAF Social Media Marketing class clients: Golden Heart Creamery and North Pole Coffee Roasting Company!

Throughout the semester, UAF students will work with these two local businesses to learn about their brands, audiences, goals, and current social media efforts. Student teams will then put what they’re learning into practice by developing customized social media marketing plans, including content strategies, platform recommendations, content calendars, and tools to measure success.

This partnership gives students something a textbook can’t: the opportunity to work with real clients, tackle real marketing challenges, and receive feedback directly from business professionals.

Our Young Entrepreneurs Lemonade Lab student teams brought everything they learned to the Georgeson Botanical Garden for sale day and they absolutely delivered!

From designing their brands and practicing their pitches to learning how businesses operate, manage money and serve customers, these young entrepreneurs experienced the many moving parts of running a business. They even made it official by securing their own City of Fairbanks business licenses!

And the sweetest part? Together, they raised more than $1,000 for local charities in Fairbanks. 💛💙

We’re incredibly grateful for our community who showed up to support these future business owners. Your encouragement gave them the opportunity to take what they learned in the classroom and put it into action and reminded them of what can happen when a community comes together to support young people with big ideas.🍋💡

Thank you to the Tanana Valley State Fair for bringing our community together and giving us the opportunity to be part of such a fun, summer tradition here in Fairbanks. We loved connecting with future Nanooks, sharing what makes CBSM special and making memories along the way.

Summer is looking a little sweeter at CBSM! 🍋

Today marks the start of a week for our young entrepreneurs that are learning the fundamentals of business from CBSM faculty and staff as they build their own lemonade businesses from the ground up.

We kicked things off with a welcome from our Dean Cam Carlson, and their first session: From Idea to Business!

Come cheer them on at their lemonade sale this Friday, Aug. 7, from 9:30–11 a.m. at the Georgeson Botanical Garden. Every cup supports local non-profit organizations as they put their new business skills to the test. We hope to see you there!
