The AK ACE -PATH team had a wonderful time in Kake. We were happy to have so much participation from community members and time in person to work on our partnership with OVK.

!

The AK ACE-CH Team would like to say Mahsi’ Choo to the community of Vashrąįį K’ǫǫ for allowing us to visit with you all back in August! We truly enjoyed discussing climate change and health with you all, as well as spending time on the land and learning from you. We cannot wait to visit again to share results, but to also socialize and spend time together.

Alaska Alliance for Community Engagement - Climate and Health (AK ACE-CH) Researcher team (Taa’ąįį (Evon) Peter, Karsten Hueffer, Morag Clinton, Jennifer Shaw and Hannah Robinson) traveled to Vashrąįį K’ǫǫ (Arctic Village, AK) for the first of four community data collection visits planned for 2024. The team spent four days in the community building relationships, learning about the community, and carrying out research activities. The ultimate goal of the visit was to understand community concerns and priorities regarding climate change and health in the community. This was carried out by conducting focus groups with community members and applying what was learned from the focus groups into statements for a Q-Sort Research Activity.

We hope everyone is safe and well. We will be in touch with you all soon!

Center for Alaska Native Health Research research scientist and AK ACE-CH Co-I, Evon (Taa'ąįį) Peter, does an excellent job summarizing how climate change is increasing the frequency and severity of storms in the Arctic.
